The 79th Annual Academy Awards

Stefanie
The 79th annual Academy Awards is now over ,as all the actors and actresses breath a sigh of relief and can begin again to enthral us with performances in hopes that next year will bring a nomination and maybe the golden man himself.

Last night was certainly a night for glammer, as each nominee pranced down the red carpet happily showing off their designer clothing. Some of the best dressed of the night worthy of mention are:

BEYONCÉ in Giorgio Armani Privé, as she has never ceased to be the belle of the ball.

JESSICA BIEL in a gown by Oscar de la Renta.

CAMERON DIAZ in Valentino.

NICOLE KIDMAN was on the red carpet in Balenciaga,

HELEN MIRREN was is in a Christian Lacroix gown,

JODIE FOSTER in a halter gown by Vera Wang,

ANNE HATHAWAY in a Valentino gown,

and American Idol's first Academy award winner
JENNIFER HUDSON, in Oscar de la Renta.

While there were to many to mention here for the best-dressed list, there were a few to join the worst dressed list.

For the winners of the worst dressed list:

PENELOPE CRUZ in a blush colored strapless Atelier Versace gown that seemed as though she was covered in feathers from the knees down. A nice colour but not so nice a dress.

Actress PORTIA DE ROSSI in a Zac Posen gown. How many times does the fashion police have to hand out tickets!? If you don't have breasts a loose halter-top isn't for you!

CELINE DION wears a vintage James Galanos from Lilly et Cie, maybe she should have stuck to Italian designers on this one, while the dress cut isn't half bad that colour leaves some to be desired. I think I've seen that colour on my grandmother's old 1970's couch.

KIRSTEN DUNST was wearing a light blue tulle embroidered dress from the Chanel Spring/Summer 2007 Haute Couture Collection. Probably not a great choice considering it looked like she had a run in with a couple birds. At the bottom of her dress were loose feathers, either it was part of the dress or she stepped on a few geese.

Honorary awardee SHERRY LANSING, although I admire her efforts in the movie business a better dress would have been a good idea. Her dressed resembled something suitable for Halloween, I could see it looking good on Morticia from the Adams family not an honorary awardee at the Oscars.

GWYNETH PALTROW wore a Zac Posen gown; unfortunately for her she resembled a salmon swimming upstream. The colour and style were not flattering in the least.

Actress MERYL STREEP wearing - what else? - Prada however, we forgot to mention that it was prada bathrobes! What was she thinking? If she wanted to ware a kimono/bath robe do it at home in private not on the red carpet of the Oscars.

KEISHA WHITAKER was in a citrine silk gown detailed with floral tulle back by Georges Chakra, let's just say spring has sprung and oh boy!

However, the Oscar for worst dressed has to go to........

FAYE DUNAWAY in J. Mendel by Gilles Mendel, oh boy I can't even describe the dress.

Despite the worst or best dressed of the night, this years Oscar was a night to remember. Not only was this year one of the most diverse in film history with actors from Spain, Mexico, Japan and Africa it was also green! Yes the Academy awards went green. Al Gore was there in support for his film "An Inconvenient Truth" in which, singer Melissa Ethridge won for best song. He and Leonardo DiCaprio made a public announcement during the awards show saying how all the production and putting together of this award show was done environmentally. Now while many might argue that they all still arrived in big cars and limos, I have to say that I was happy to see the most influential industry of the world speak out on the environment and the issue of global warming. The awards of course were what everyone was watching this for, and personally I wanted to hear more of Ellen De'generas as the host. I love her show and find her so funny but on this night she chose a more subtle approach to the hosting of the Oscars and although she was funny she wasn't over the top. Although I do have to say I miss the Billy Crystal days.

Here were the awards given out last night as follows:

Best Screenplay, based on material previously produced or published: The Departed

Best Screenplay written directly for the screen: Little Miss Sunshine

Best Achievement in directing: Martin Scorsese for The Departed

Best Performance for an actress in a supporting role: Jennifer Hudson for Dream Girls

Best Performance for an actor in a supporting role: Allan Arkin for Little Miss Sunshine

Best Performance for an actress in a leading role: Helen Mirren for Queen

Best Performance for an actor in a leading role: Forrest Whitiker for The Last King Of Scotland.

Best Motion Picture of the year: The Departed.

There ends another year at the Oscars, and so I sat through four hours of watching the rich get richer, but I do have a few new movies on my to see list starting with Queen.

Who knows maybe next year I'll get to cover this live! Now that would be fun instead of sitting at home with popcorn and Oreos I can be rubbing elbows with the rich and famous showing off my glamoures gown by sears and jewellery courtesy of Walmart.

Interesting list...I wasn't a big fan of Anne Hathaway's dress, but I always love to hear about who wore what.
