The Ab Lounge: Does it Work?

More than likely, one sleepless night while channel surfing, you've come across one of many weight loss equipment informercials. It doesn't matter what it's for, they all sound and look the same. Just another cheesy announcer voice promising results in "just days!". Throw in a few unusually happy body builders using the product (all the while smiling!), a few satisfied customers sharing their amazing stories, and you've got yourself another over-the-top product endorsement.

However, sometimes there's one informercial that catches your eye, and, possibly due to the lack of anything else on, you watch it. This was the case for me one night, and the product happened to be the Ab Lounge.

The thing that caught my eye about this contraption was that it was a machine specifically designed to work your abs, (something I could definitely use) and, more importantly, it actually looked easy and fun to operate. And it was called the Ab Lounge, I mean, it must be relaxing, right? And so, quite possibly just because I was lacking sleep, I decided to try it. If anything, maybe having a large blue contraption with the word "AB" printed in bold letters might motivate me to use it every so often.

I'd have to say, the Ab Lounge isn't as bad as some may make it out to be. Sure it's a bit over-priced and you could get the same results by doing cardio or old-fashioned crunches, but the design of the machine makes doing them just a little more, if I may be so bold, enjoyable. It's certainly better than straining your neck and back on the floor. With the Ab Lounge, you are literally suspended in air on a hammock-like lounge, allowing your body to stretch further than it would be able to on the floor. While the exercise itself is still as painful, it does seem to work. That is, if you keep at it.

The only downside to the contraption is that it takes a while to set up, and once it's put together, you mine as well count it as another piece of furniture. There's really no convenient way to hide it or put it away after use, so make sure you have an area to keep it. It will take up a lot of room.

If you're looking to slim down and want a piece of exercise equipment to supplement your diet routine, you might just benefit from the Ab Lounge. It does what it aims to do, and much more comfortably than the average crunch exercises.
