The Abandoned House Mystery

S. Morris
One day Emma was on her way home from school. Willow lane was a quiet street. Only five houses on it. All a good distance from each other. Beautiful homes, except number five at the end. It was a two story, as most of the others were. It had a rundown white picket fence and the house itself needed repair. It probably was a beauty at one point. She thought to herself. She approached her home. It was a creamy white with a navy trim. She loved this house a lot. Her Father and Mother bought it when she was six. Ten years later it still was the same. A real wonderful house. A green lawn with a surrounding white fence was in the front. On the left side was a large willow tree.

About four lots over was ,"The house." As she stood staring at it it sent a chill down her spine. No one was ever seen going in or out of that house for many years.Although one time she saw a small light flicker. In a down stairs room. She never said a word to anyone about it. Thinking it to be her imagination getting the best of her.

A sudden push startled her! It was her younger elven year old brother running out the door past her to a friends house. Yelling back to her telling her that he would be home for dinner. She then headed in the house and up the stairs to her room. Opening the door and walking to her bed. She set down her bag. Got out her homework. She worked on it for about thirty minutes.

Feeling thirsty she headed downstairs towards the kitchen, when she heard a noise coming from outside. Stopping at a nearby window she peered out. Glancing about the neighborhood. Looking for where the noise came from. Nothing? She proceeded to the refrigerator to get her drink. On the way back up to her room she heard the noise again. She ran to the window, again nothing. She looked at ,"The house." She saw a quick movement. What's going on she thought?

She walked over to the closet and grabbed out a baseball bat. Worry started to cover over her. Emma went out the back door. Sneaking cautiously through some nearby trees. Curiosity was getting the best of her at this moment! She knew something was going on there, she wanted to solve the abandoned house mystery.

Reaching the house, she tiptoed up the back porch to the door. Turning the knob, she found it was unlocked! She opened the door with utmost care and silence. Peeking inside, she saw nothing? The house did not look to be lived in. Only a small wood table by a small chair, with a used candle sitting on it and a book beside that. Someone was here! Slowly moving through the house she peered into every room. Nothing so far.

Then she heard a creaking somewhere in the house. But where? Which room could it be? Emma checked each room with caution. Her heart was pumping rapidly by that time.! Reaching a room that looked like an old sun room, rundown, she walked to the middle. Looking around quickly. Still nothing. Then she was grabbed. The person had a hand covering her mouth.AH! She screamed, with muffled tones. Shh! Was being whispered in her ear. I wont hurt you! Slowly she stopped, still terrified. He let go. He turned around.

He appeared to be bit dirty and young! He spoke clearly. I am Alex and I am homeless. I know I sacred you, I am so sorry. I should not be living here. I have been here about two years now. My parents died of a fever when I was only twelve. I have traveled a lot. Until I found this place. Please don't tell anyone or I will have to leave and I really don't want to.I...I, she spoke with a mellow voice of understanding, I wont. I just wandered if the light I saw or noise I heard was just me! My imagination getting to me.

They talked for a couple hours. Deciding to be friends, she promised to tell no one. She left carefully. So no others would see and find out.

Emma walked home in amazement. Amazement to how she just solved the,"Abandoned House Mystery!"
