The Absence Lesson

A.M. Morgan

The atmosphere feels all alone

The temperature is set but the thrill of the heat is gone

Something is not right as this truth settles with the break of dawn

How can the rainbow emerge while ignoring the storm?

The stars are falling and a lot of contemplating is going on

There were no official goodbyes but regret lingers on

Too good to be true but better than I can ever expect

I let a potential love go for fear of the unknown

I questioned your every move

Causing your heart a round of unnecessary blues

Now as I read the headline news through the writing on my internal wall

I must apologize for not being completely transparent with you

Somehow, I hope your heart favors my failed sentiments of wanting you back

But I understand for being dishonest you have nothing further to say or expect

Now the reality of love's absence lesson buries the selfish pride in me

In addition, I realize karma will one day settle my conscience with an unfavorable score
