The Absolute Worst Trendy Baby Names for Girls

Deciding on the perfect name for their new baby girl has led to sleepless nights and heated arguments for many new parents. In the past, many of those spats centered on picking a name that would please both sets of in-laws. This was usually accomplished by choosing to use a combination of female names from both of the parents' family trees or picking religious names.

Though some parents, in recent decades, have chosen to opt for this method, many more new parents have based their decisions on whatever naming trends are most popular at the time. Former trends have included using the names of flowers, celestial bodies and those of historical figures.

The contemporary trendy girls' names are those of celebrities and their children, fruits and the titles of metaphysical concepts, both philosophical and spiritual. Many parents have chosen to use "Heaven" or an anagram created from its' letters. Today's trends have been greatly influenced by the names being chosen by the famous.

Some of the current pop icons have gone with traditional girls' names, including the two most popular names of choice for stars' daughters, Ava and Lola. Other celebs have chosen spiritually influenced names, the days of the week and place names.

A few of the more adventurous celebrity parents have decided to gift, or torture, their little ones with unique, unusual or just plain weird names. My parents chose this less travelled path, in 1959, when they chose "Tanja" as the perfect name for their newborn daughter.

The absolute worst of these trendy names has got to be "Apple." Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin may have thought the name was cool, but they aren't the little girl who will be forced to endure a future filled with the cruel teasing of classmates and neighborhood bullies.

The four runners up, not all of which were chosen by celebrities, are "Infiniti", "Celica", "L'Oreal", "Emerson", and nearly 300 girls were branded, in 2003, with the name "Armani". Today's parents should take the time to consider how their daughters' names will affect their future interactions with their peers, instructors and employers.
