The Absurd Protesters Should Change Their Position

I take government service very seriously, and so does the generation I come from. I served in the Federal Government for over seventeen years as a Navy and later as an Army Civilian. As civilians, we always gave 100% to those who wore the uniform, went into harm's way, and risked life and limb to defend the United States and the American Way of Life. My job, my mission in life was to prepare for war, help ensure victory once military operations or full fledged war began, and limit our casualties at the same time. I have always considered serving the men and women who wear the uniform the greatest honor of my career. The highlight of my career was working as an intelligence analyst and covering the Persian Gulf for the Army.

The Persian Gulf

The dedication of the civilian workforce together with the sacrifice of the men and women in uniform produced dramatic results. I was part of a team that was very successful in the area. We successfully deterred the dreaded Soviet invasion of Iran, stopped the Iranian Revolution in its tracks and limited it to Iran itself, and protected American interests in the area during the long and brutal Iran-Iraq War. Incredibly, we were not hit with any oil embargoes and the oil continued to flow from the region even though Iran and Iraq slugged it out for years. The war ended where it started with both countries basically confined to their original borders.

My Response to the Protesters

I am appalled at the miserable, absurd, and outrageous behavior of the protesters from Westboro Baptist Church. These protesters desecrate the memory of our fallen soldiers by saying that God struck them down because of our public policies toward homosexuality. They even dishonor our fallen coal miners. In April 2010, the church canceled a visit to Millersville University so its members could celebrate the tragic deaths of 29 coal miners outside churches in Wheeling, West Virginia. I cannot imagine people celebrating the deaths of their fellow Americans! I do not believed the protesters are actually dishonoring our fallen soldiers and coal miners, but are dishonoring their God, the Baptist Church, and themselves.

A Chance to Reconsider

I hope the protesters will take this opportunity to reconsider their position and make things right. The Wrath of God involves furious and violent anger. A nation which experiences the true Wrath of God will never forget it, and neither will the world. America is not experiencing the true Wrath of God. Casualties in war, and accidental deaths in coal mines are a common occurrence in a fallen, imperfect world. Unfortunately, they are to be expected. So, I am asking the protesters to reconsider their position, develop a more reasonable theology, apologize to the American People, make things right, and start over once again.
