I don't know exactly why Time Magazine decided to do this. In fact, I don't really know why Time Magazine's trend toward picking groups of people to be the Time Person of the year has been occurring. In recent years, Time Magazine picked "whistleblowers" as the persons of the year in recognition of the people who called the authorities on their companies for fraud such as the Enron scandal. Yet in my opinion, Time Magazine should've just picked one person who was a whistleblower who led the charge against their companies such as the woman who started the Enron scandal and called the FBI.
Now this year Time Magazine has decided to make the category of people for Person of the year to include every single person on the face of the Earth including you and me and the guy who lives next to you. Now, even I know that I don't deserve to be the Time Person of the year and I haven't even accomplished anything with my life yet in part because I am still a college student. By picking "You" as the Time Person of the Year, they don't have anyone to pick for next year if you think about this logically. Its almost as if Time Magazine ran out of people to pick for the award. However, I'm sure that there was at least one worthy person who should have deserved the award. They could have picked the Red Cross for their efforts in Darfur where genocide is occurring.
Another reason I think that Time Magazine picked "You" as the person of the year is because they didn't want to have a horrible choice as they have in the past by picking Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.
To make matters worse, the cover of Time Magazine which featured a shiny piece of material to represent a mirror to see ones own reflection, the whole cover looked tacky and very badly done.
