The Abu Garcia Black Max Reel

Randy Jones
I guess if I could, I would fish rather than to sleep. I do some lake fishing here in the heart of The Bluegrass State, Good Ol Lexington, Kentucky. For the past couple of years I have went with a friend of mine and I always seem to swap my closed face reels for his open cast reels. Well I was in Sportsman's Warehouse in Lexington with my mind made up on a particular reel that my heart was set on. As luck would have it, I asked to see the reel and with the propaganda raised over it I was sure for the price I was getting a deal. As I was looking it over, a friend of mine handed me another one. I immediately liked the spin of the handle. I set the one down I originally came for and started to examine the Abu Garcia Black Max reel.

I was impressed by the smooth movement to the handle as well as the solid design, it as well comes with five bearings, four immediate and one anti-reverse bearing. The low profile made it easy for those of us that like to palm the reel. The more I played around with it, the more I liked it. My decision had been made and I don't mind telling you that I paid $49.99 plus tax and so far was very happy with my purchase.

It was now the big day to try out my new purchase to see if the Black Max would deliver on the great fishing experience I was hoping for. Well I will say this, it had been a while for me using this type of open reel so yes I did spend about an hour or so untangling the rats nest from my first few casts, and spent a little time adjusting the brake and thumb pressure, but man when I had it, I had it! This reel brought to my hands by Abu Garcia was simply short of aw-some. With each cast I became more attached to it, and finally about two and a half hours into the fishing trip I landed a nice little 3 1/2 pound large mouth and with the greatest comfort I slowly reeled him in. This was a true compliment to my new Black Max reel and my purchase had not been in vain.

I will say that one thing I did figure out about the backlash, small light weight spinner lures are a little harder to cast with this reel, but. If your a big user of crank baits you will find this is ideal perfect.
