The AC Twitter Challenge Multiplied My Content Page Views

Kristen Dyrr
I have been a Twitter user since the beginning of 2008, but had never used it much until the AC Twitter Challenge. On Twitter, I am @kristenhead, which is a nickname given to me by my cousin. Please feel free to follow me.

I decided to do the bare minimum for the challenge to see what would happen, then use all the tricks I learn to do more after the challenge is over. The bare minimum in this case was to "tweet" one of my AC articles, and "retweet" one of the @acnews tweets about the challenge.

During the two week challenge, my page views went up so high on the content I had tweeted, that it rivaled my most popular content. My first two tweets were about my first video and first article. They used to be fairly popular three years ago when I first created them, but didn't get nearly as many page views as some of my more recent content.

My first tweet, about my first music video (the first thing I ever created on AC), was a smashing success. My page views for that one video have gone up to almost twice as much as my most popular content. Before the tweet, I was only getting a few page views for the video, somewhere in the 20s. It is now up to about 150 views after just two weeks.

Earlier on the day of this writing, I tweeted about my most popular content, and started following all of the Twitter users listed on this AC article. It is too soon to tell how successful that will be, but I intend to write another article about Twitter after using it more extensively.

My favorite thing about Twitter is the ability to get instant news. Being a programmer and geek, my favorite Twitterers are those who provide technology news. Some examples are @XAboutGadget, @engadget, @mashable, @OReillyMedia (the tech book guy, not Bill from The Factor), @TechCrunch and, my favorite, @Gizmodo.

I watch my favorite Twitterers easily using Seesmic Desktop, which is a very handy tool if you want to combine all of your Twitter and Facebook feeds in one place. It also allows you to post to multiple Twitter accounts, if you need to have separate accounts for business purposes.
