A Natural Supplement to Help Lose Weight: The Acai Berry

How do you know you are serious about weight loss? Maybe you look in the mirror and no longer recognize yourself, or the clothes in the closet mock you every time you open the door. Those could be some examples of a serious weight loss mentality, but really it boils down to one mantra: there is no little pill that will solve all your problems without hard work, education, retraining of habits and commitment. There are tons of diet pills and programs on the market, but the only ones that actually work are the ones requiring the previously mentioned characteristics.

One of the newest fads is actually well received by doctors, scientists and nutritionist. They all agree it is very helpful to people wanting to lose weight and is known as a "super food" that is packed with high amounts of antioxidants: the acai berry.

The History of the Berry:

Of course the berry has been around in the Amazon Rainforest for centuries and the natives have been harvesting and consuming this berry just as long. There is an old wives tale of a girl whose name was Iaca and her father was a tribe leader. And he decided because food was scarce that all newborn children be sacrificed. Well, Iaca eventually bore a child and due to her father's law her child was killed. In the legend during her mourning period there was a full moon and she heard a child crying. She found her child standing under a tree covered in a purple substance. She ran to the tree and held her close, and in the morning Iaca was found clinging to the tree staring at the top of the limbs. Her father immediately stopped the sacrifices and ordered his tribe to harvest the tree. The source of the fruit gave the tribe energy and nutrition to carry on. He named the berry after his daughter, Acai (Iaca spelled backwards).

Whether this legend is true or not it makes a point that for centuries the native of Brazil have understood and benefited from this powerful berry that has more good qualities than bad.

The Benefits of Acai Berry for Weight Loss

There are three main components to any weight loss strategy:

1. Increase metabolic rate in the body.

2. Suppress your appetite so you can burn more than daily intake of food.

3. Build muscle tone for added caloric burn.

Among the many benefits of this super food it fits all three components. The berry has antioxidants, essential fatty acids, phytosterols that all become a strong force that helps the body not only function better, but it helps the body digest food and burn calories easier and faster. It is high in fiber, which aides the digestive tract to rid the body of fatty foods and helps you feel full faster and longer. The amino acids help build the muscle tone your body needs to burn calories faster. And the super high levels of antioxidants produce huge amounts of stamina and energy needed for carrying out the exercise regimen needed for serious weight loss.

Maybe you have not seen this advertised yet, but eventually you will. It's been mentioned on Oprah and Rachel Ray already and has many people talking. It's not a miracle weight loss solution, but it definitely looks like a nice compliment to any weight loss plan. But just like any other type of medication you need to consult your doctor first and make sure you are getting a pure product. Unfortunately, you cannot buy this at the supermarket because it is only grown in the Amazon Rainforest. There are many types of products containing this berry from drinks to tablets. If you search out reputable sources you can trust to receive a high quality, natural and healthy aide in your weight loss program.
