The ADD Food Network: Watermelon Feta Salad

Silense Smith
Looking for something healthy and easy to put together? Searching for something that doesn't taste like a freshly pickled monkey butt? Here's a surprisingly somewhat-close-to-awesome option: Watermelon Feta Salad. When the sound of it first hits your ears you might be hesitant. "I like feta" you say, "and I don't mind watermelon. But... together? I...I-don't understand." Your eyes cross because your logic centers tell you these are not typical combinations. The damage is so severe you begin to talk like William Shatner. However, this new salad has been tearing up food blogs for some time.

Below you will behold how this mighty creation is concocted.

Items you will need to acquire:

Watermelon

Feta Cheese (the crumble kind)

Basil

A bowl

Your Mouth

Instructions

Take your watermelon and chop it into chunks in a size that makes your happy neurons do their jiggy dance. If you are one of those rare people who do not have happy neurons, please purchase some from your local neuron supply store and continue. Fill the bowl with the newly cut watermelon. Add cheese crumbles. Throw on the basil. Get a fork and put the food in your mouth.

That's how it happens. Fifteen minutes or less and you are on your way to digesting Watermelon Feta Salad.

Additional Notations

People use many different seasonings. Pepper, balsamic vinaigrette, Italian dressing, mint, parts of a sink stolen from an old kitchen, and parsley are but a few. Mix and match. Experimentation is the spice of life. If you like crunchiness, add onions. Red onions are used for sweet zang, white onions for regular zang. For salty crunch without zang, add chopped nuts. Sometimes people add spinach for no crunch at all. Only some of those people are named Popeye.

Also try different cheeses. Dry and salty seem to be the key components to successful watermelon compatibility. Cotija and parmesan are two choices. A slightly less dry option is goat cheese-watch out, it kicks.
