Perhaps you are tired of the recent news. The economy is really bad, Dow Jones is dropping and major car companies are going bankrupt. Many people are in trouble because they didn't planned ahead. They didn't realize that the economy goes bad every 10 or so, and they didn't prepare for this time. Being prepared not only has the obvious benefits, such as having some money in tough times; its benefits go further.

You will feel less stress about the current situation if you are prepared. You may have enough money saved or supplies stored in your house. This will give you not only the essential stuff to survive, but the peace of mind that comes with it which will allow you to enjoy your life and not only be concentrated in the current economic crisis.

In a crisis, you are likely to save more money. If you prepared right you will buy many supplies before the prices go up. This means you will have bough goods and food at low prices; buy when there's a special sale, discount or clearance. You will have a good supply that will last for long. Besides, many storable foods are quite healthy, including dehydrated berries and fruits, grains, vegetables and beans. Buy in bulk and use some of it; once you start running out you can buy some more. This way you will have a constant and fresh supply of food that can be stores in case of a crisis.

Being prepared will also have the benefit of educating your kids and forming a good habit on them. You are the main model to your children and the best way they learn is from example. Your kids will learn that it is good to be prepared and they will be likely to do it their whole life and pass the habit to their own children.

This approach is useful in times of economic instability and terrorist threats, but it is also useful in other times. If your area faces a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado or floods, the supplies you have accumulated will be priceless. They can even help you in times of personal need like getting laid off or while going back to school. You will be surprised of the versatility.

Now that you know the benefits of being prepared is time to take action. Start buying food in bulk, prepare a place in your house to store it, teach your children about being prepared and follow this advice to avoid being caught off-guard.
