Taking pictures with a digital camera is less expensive. All photos are stored on a memory device within the camera and then downloaded to your computer. There is no longer a need to keep buying rolls of film, paying for developing or picking up the photos at the store. Also gone is the expense of buying multiple copies of your favorite picture because now you can send unlimited copies of that great shot to friends and family without spending an extra cent.
Talk about instant gratification, why, because you can see your pictures right after you take them. Most digital cameras allow you to view your photos immediately. You have the option to delete the ones that didn't turn out. Gone are the days of paying for photographs you just throw away because of cutting off someone's head or blurred images, or paying to have all the pictures developed. You can pick and choose and only print the snapshots you want, thus saving money.
For the armature photographer the built in editing features in your digital camera is an absolute must have. These tools allow you to remove the dreaded red-eye from photos or lighten darkened images because of a poor flash. You can crop (make smaller) and center the digital image, even sharpen the details, thus improving your picture taking results. In just a few minutes you can have a picture perfect image worth printing.
Now of course at some point you will want to print your photos. There are digital photo printing services online that offer free accounts and instructions on how to print your pictures and create online photo albums. You may want to print out your snapshots on photo quality paper using your own photo printer. You can always use you computer's printer while you master your photographic skills before upgrading to a compact photo printer.
When you buy your camera check to see if you will need any additional digital imaging software. Usually you will receive the necessary software to download your images to your computer with your camera. Also, your PC may have picture editing software loaded on your hard drive. If you want to enhance your photos beyond the basics, check out the numerous digital editing software options, many offering free trial versions on the internet.
We have discussed a few of the advantages of digital photography you should consider as you decide if a digital camera is right for you.
