The Advantages of Starting a Home-Based Business

Katy Biondo
With the turn-down in the economy, many people who wanted to start a business are wondering if they should postpone starting or forget owning their own business. The truth is that it is not a good time to start a large business; however, starting a home-base or internet business is a viable option. There are many advantages to home-based businesses.

First you have few or no employees, so you do not have to spend much money on the payroll. Also, the few your employees, the less health you need to pay. Some businesses on the internet are one-person operations which really bring down costs.

There are many small business-plans on the internet, so you can start any kind of business you are interested in. Everything from your own travel business to your own writing business is possible for you; selling on e-bay is also popular. All you need is $100-$1000, a computer with a high-speed connection, a business license, and the drive to succeed. Some business models even include drop-shipping; drop-shipping is when the customer buys from you, then you buy the item for your supplier, so there are no storage fees.

You also save gas-money because your business is in your home, and you will be eligible for tax credits.

Just remember that the smaller the business the less money it takes to run. The reverse is also true. Large corporations take in huge amounts of money, but they also have huge healthcare cost and large legal fees. Most small business has between two and ten employees. This sees that the work gets done and that you are not paying too much.

Another aspect of owing your own business is the savings account. Always make sure you have enough money saved so that you can react quickly and to cover expenses for at least two months. Most businesses fail in their first year because of lack of funding. Wait until you have saved or borrowed enough to stay in business for one year.

Keep informed about your products and competition. Be prepared to rebut any false claims your competition makes about you or products. Do not make any false claims about your competition! Just explain why your products are better.

Do your market-research before starting a project. Make sure you can deliver what you promise. Under promise and over deliver will help keep your customers happy.

Lastly, make sure you have great security on your computer. Remember you may have to store personal information, so do it right. It is worth the extra money to invest in a high-speed internet connection. This is important because your computer may not be able to run all the security applications without it.

So get out there and start your business!
