The Aeroponic Cloner: Its Function and Uses

Susan Slobac
If you garden indoors on a large scale in a greenhouse setting, you are likely producing plants that will be sold to the public. Because of good sales and a fast turnover of plants, you need to be able to efficiently keep more new plants coming, and it is for this reason that growers turn to the aeroponic cloner. Aeroponic cloners are used to accelerate the growth of roots on cuttings, giving you strong young transplants that will quickly take root and grow. An aeroponic cloner
is also a great choice for those practicing hydroponic gardening, where plants grow quickly and must be replaced with new ones.

With aeroponics, the plant is suspended in netting supporting the crown, and grown in no soil at all but hanging in the air. The plant receives nutrients via a misting spray of nutrient solution directly on the roots. Because the roots are exposed to oxygen, it promotes fast growth as well as a large reduction of plant diseases.

An aeroponic cloner functions in a similar manner. Cuttings are placed in special trays that hold them in place, and periodically rooting hormones are sprayed onto the ends of the exposed cuttings to induce the growth of roots. A pump is used in the plant cloner to bring the rooting hormone solution to the sprayers, and to increase the air temperature a humidity dome is used. Air pumps are also used to keep air circulating so as to prevent mold and other diseases from gaining a hold on the plants.

An easy way to get started with an plant cloner is to purchase plant cloning kits. With cloning kits, everything you need will be included, so it is a simple matter to set the equipment up and get started producing new plants right away.

In addition to an aeroponic cloner, you may also wish to get plant cloning kits that allow you to start new plants in other growing media. These cloning kits allow you to start new plants in clone plugs, as an alternative to aeroponic cloners.

There are additional supplies that you will want to use with cloning kits in order to ensure success at plant propagation. Sharp gardening shears, rooting hormone, rooting solution, cloning gel, propagation trays, perhaps rockwool cubes and humidity propagation domes are all helpful in the pursuit of starting new plants easily and well.

You can find an aeroponic cloner and all manner of cloning supplies, including kits, from well-stocked discount hydroponic gardening online merchants. These suppliers will also carry all of the items you need to grow your plants on to maturity as well.
