However, this hairstyle is really not for everybody. There are some people that can really rock the afro and really do it well. However, there are other people out there that just can't and they look silly. It's something that doesn't match, it's like oil and water, two things that just will never match with each other.
I almost have to laugh when I see some kids today trying to show off their Afro. I find it just pathetic. That hairstyle was popular back in the 70s. Fortunately it is 2009 and not the 70s anymore.
I especially find it kind of funny to see these posers try and act tough with their afro. They come out and say "Look at me, I'M REALLY COOL!" Unfortunately, for them, they are absolutely not even close to being even anything close to cool. They should really go to something that resembles more of a traditional haircut and save themselves the embarrassment of looking like a weirdo.
Now some of them can rock the afro. Dr. J had a nice afro in the 70s but even he got rid of it when he realized how silly it looked. In watching "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," I saw the drummer for "The Roots," he had it and it just fit him perfectly. But today, most of the people I see that are stupid enough to still rock the afro just end up looking like a clown. And if I wanted to see a clown, I'd go to the circus.
If your hair naturally grows that way, it's probably going to look pretty good and I commend you for that. But I see a lot of people that are just pretending that an afro looks good. And nobody wants to see that, especially me.
From personal experience, I have known people that either have tried to grow long hair or afros and as I said earlier, they look like a clown. Keep the hair short fellas. Maybe you'll actually earn a dime of respect
