The Alabama Crimson Tide Roll Past the University of Florida and Win the SEC Championship in a Blowout 32-13.
Alabama Will Play for Its 13th National Championship with Their Decisive Victory Against Florida.
In speaking to friends of mine I really could not figure out that the SEC Championship game would be as decisive of a victory. I have been a Crimson Tide fan my entire life. I knew they had a shot to win, but I figured that Florida might have the upper hand because of the experience that Tim Tebow has and the lack of experience that Greg McElroy has. I don't think there are any doubters anymore as to how good of a quarterback that McElroy is. He stepped up his game and led his team to victory.
The game was pretty much all Alabama from the opening kick off. The tide scored on a Leigh Tiffin field goal to cap off the first drive. Florida only managed one touchdown the entire game. That was a twenty three yard pass from Tim Tebow to David Nelson. The tide defense kept the running game of Florida in check all day with the exception of a couple of moderated gains by Tebow. They also stuck the receivers hard and contained Tebow very well. They did not allow Florida to score at all during the second half. Despite the presence of Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Tim Tebow, Florida could only manage 335 yards of offense compared to the Crimson Tides 490.
The day was not very good for Florida individually either. Tim Tebow did complete 20/35 passes for 246 yards with one touchdown but also had a momentum turning interception into the end zone on a very long Gators drive. Tebow was also the only the rusher with more than two carries. He rushed for sixty three yards on six carries. The quarterback many teams did not want had a career day. Greg McElroy completed 12/18 passes for 239 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and won the player of the game award. I would say Tebow did play a pretty good game overall, but as the saying goes one player does not win a game. The team wins the game. The Crimson Tide was a much better team. Additionally freshman Trent Richardson had another pretty good .
The story of the game though was a statement by Heisman hopeful Mark Ingram of Alabama. He had a great day. He had 128 yards on twenty eight carries and three touchdowns. He also had 76 yards on two receptions and was able to keep drives alive with the big play when needed. With Tim Tebow's uncharacteristic performance the Heisman trophy will probably go to either Mark Ingram of Alabama or Colt McCoy of Texas.
I think all tide fans need to tip their hats to the University of Florida though. They played a classy game and are a classy team. Tim Tebow had a good game, but it was just not good enough. I wonder if he regrets choosing Florida now. Then again with two national championship rings and a Heisman Trophy he had a pretty good career. I will say one thing that I liked is that both Tim Tebow and Mark Ingram mentioned thanking God and God Bless in their comments to reporters. I think it is good to see athletes keep the father in their lives as he watching over us.
