The Alpha and the Omega

Choosing Beginnings or Endings

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

A, Aleph, Alpha -
The beginning of everything.
Marking the spot no one
Living recalls,
Before dark temptation
Took wing.
A pure heart
At the start
Became all too quickly
Corrupted
And the scheme to
Remain in paradise
Became, in Genesis,
Rudely
And permanently interrupted.

Omega at the other
Extreme -
An ending disguised
With false gilded gleam
Beckoning the curious
Whose caution is not yet grown
To step into a field
Of risks
Where moral mines are sown.
Buried whilst we slept,
The enemy is always
Quite adept.

And in between
There is real life,
For better and for worse;
The imperfection that it is
Is neither blessing nor curse
But is simply what it is
As we get to pick and choose
The options that will
Influence
Whether we shall win or lose.

Well, I believe "the alpha and the omega" do not refer to Genesis or life on earth; Jesus said *He* is the alpha and the omega - meaning He has always been; He always was. The beginning and the end are the same like a circle. Nevertheless, your point in this poem with regard to us and our lives here on earth is well taken. :)

Great - and so true about those moral mines!

It's the "in-between" where we experience life and the Omega where we experience afterlife :) cheers!
