The Alphabet According to JerseyNana: "C"

My Weekly Article for Youngsters, In-Betweeners and Seniors

Diane Zoller-Ciatto
Well everyone, it looks like our weekly column is catching on. Don't forget to let me know if there is an upcoming event you would like me to mention as we do not want anyone to be left out.

Youngsters: The first word for you youngsters is COUGH. This time of the year, nearly everyone is getting a cold or flu and we will help make it easier to stay well. Can you put your left hand on your right shoulder or your right hand on your left shoulder? Now lift your arm while your hand is still on your shoulder so it covers your mouth. Then when you have to COUGH, just cover your mouth like that and do not COUGH into your hand. Hands spread too many germs and by doing this, you will save many germs that would ordinarily be spread through touching.

The second word for you youngsters is CHARITY. This may be a new word to you, but with holidays coming around the corner, I am sure that you may have lots of toys and games that you have not played with in a long time. Do you know that there are many children who do not have very much? The toys that you do not play with can make some child very happy. So ask your parents if you can donate them to CHARITY like a nearby shelter. This way you will make room for your new gifts and make another child very happy. JerseyNana will tell you something else, when you are kind and generous and have a giving heart; you will be rewarded in many other ways and have a good feeling that you helped someone in need.

In-Betweeners: CALORIES is the first word for you in-betweeners. As I previously told you about ALCOHOL in the letter "A"; CALORIES can also be abundant in this merry and jolly season. Be careful not to attend parties on an empty stomach. If there is a buffet; be the hawk before the vulture and check out the spread first before loading your plate. Don't feel obligated to belong to the "clean plate club" just make the best choices so you do not overeat on empty CALORIES.

The second word for you in-betweeners is CULTURE. Holidays usually give you some free time. Why not add some CULTURE to your life; visit a museum, art gallery or historic landmark decorated for the holidays. Just check your state or local website for events in your area, probably many you did not even know existed can be a short ride away.

Seniors: CALCIUM is the word for us seniors, both male and female. I know for a fact that we seniors do not always eat properly. One of the nutrients that we especially need as we age is CALCIUM because when we lack this in our diet, our body will steal it from our teeth and bones making us more susceptible to fractures and osteoporosis. Remember 60 is the new 40, and we have to keep up with those younger than us by safeguarding ourselves to stay strong and well. Check with your doctor for the correct dosage of this and any other supplements your body may just be begging for.

CASH is the other word, Seniors! I know many of you do not trust banks and lately we have had good reason not to. But use direct deposit of that pension and Social Security check. This way it is protected from theft. You can link a debit card to your account to prevent overspending and also pay your bills online and save stamps. I know we like to have CASH on us, but please do not carry large amounts of CASH when shopping and keep it discreet, thieves are everywhere.

Hope all my readers have a wonderful week, hope my American friends enjoyed Thanksgiving and had fun with family. I read lots of funny stories on AC and look forward to hearing from you all! Thanks for reading!
