The Alphabet According to JerseyNana - N

Weekly Column for All Ages

Diane Zoller-Ciatto
Youngsters: Hi there kids, hope you are having a great week. Our first word for you is NEWS. Now I don't expect you to watch television news all the time like Nana does, but it is important to know what is going on around you. If you play sports, I know you will want to see your team info in the local NEWSPAPER and if you do well, you want to see your name in the NEWS too. If you have a school NEWSPAPER, it may be something you may want to look into. It could be the start of a career in writing that can stay with you forever.

The second word is NARWHAL, an Arctic sea animal related to whales and dolphins. It grows to be about twenty feet long and the interesting thing about it, is the males have a long twisted ivory tusk in the middle of its head that can grow to almost nine feet long.

In-Betweeners: Tweeners, your first word is NATIVE. If you were born in a particular place or country, you are a NATIVE. I am a NATIVE of New Jersey, if you have not already figured that out. I never lived anywhere else in the country and I am an American. So many of my friends come from all around the world, even places I have never heard of. From where are you a NATIVE and where do you live now?

Your second word today is NAVEL. I just bought a big bag of NAVEL oranges, so big, delicious and juicy. One thing we all have is a NAVEL or a belly button as it is more familiarly called. My niece has her NAVEL pierced, which gives me shivers. I have pierced ears and that is enough piercing for anyone in my estimation, but whatever you like is your decision.

Seniors: Your first word is NOSTALGIA. NOSTALGIA is the longing for something that is gone forever, but thanks to search engines on the internet, nothing is gone forever. Please make sure you share your NOSTALGIC thoughts with fellow seniors and the younger generations. Many of the things I write about are NOSTALGIC to me just because I do not want those wonderful memories to die with me. So share some memories today, you never know what conversations and more NOSTALGIA they will stir up.

Your second word is NEED. Many of us are very proud and if there is a NEED, we forget to ask or even tell someone that there is a NEED. Please share your thoughts and feelings with your friends and family. Even if you can't afford medications and the basic necessities of life, there is help available, but unless you know this information, you will not get help.
