The Alpine M500 Mono Subwoofer Aplifier

Jordan Lanum
For about 5 months now I have been using the alpine m500 mono sub-woofer amplifier and, to be honest, I will say it is a pretty good amp but has a few flaws that one should be aware of before purchase.

Basics

Size - Roughly 10 inches square

Weight - 5lbs

1Ohm Stable - No

RMS power - 500 watts @2ohms 300 watts @4ohms

Bass Nob - No

What to expect

This amp has a good amount of power if you hook it up at 2ohms, but oddly enough it is a power hungry amp. I would recommend investing in a dry-cell battery because it will kill a car battery alone. The sound quality that this amplifier puts out is pretty good - it doesn't omit notes and will give you good production, and with a bass capacitor and dry cell battery, it will provide a nice element of raw power out that with a good pair of sub-woofers will sound great. All in all this amp will be perfect for those who want more bass but don't want to spend a lot of money and don't want anything too powerful. It gives you a lot of power when you want, and gives you just enough added bass when you just want to upgrade your music experience.

Downside

The only two downsides I encountered with this product is that when first turning the car on, if i had the music up and some heavy bass coming through, then the amp will shut off. After a few seconds it will come back on; you will just have to wait and turn the music down for a little while. This can be a good thing, because if there is a power surge that could fry the amp or your subs. The only other problem I encountered was the amp running extremely hot, so you will need an external fan to keep the temperature down.

Bottom line

This amp is good - I would recommend it for purchase. It does have its flaws but nonetheless they are minuscule in comparison to the upside this amplifier has. If you are looking for good power, clean sound production, and a good quality buy then this is for you.
