Update: Leftist groups and media blast Keep America Safe over al-Qaeda 7
"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." - Abraham Lincoln.
President Obama stacked the DOJ with nine lawyers, possibly more, that have defended al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorists. Two of the nine lawyers in question were previously identified as Neal Katyal and Jennifer Daskal. A group called Keep America Safe pressured Attorney General Eric Holder to identify the other seven DOJ lawyers.
Keep America Safe dubbed the unnamed lawyers the al-Qaeda 7, view video.
For several weeks, Obama and Holder refused to reveal the names of the seven despite a promise of change and transparency. Prior to Liz Cheney, co-founder of Keep America Safe, appearing on the O'Reilly Factor on Wednesday, Holder's office forwarded the names of the seven lawyers to Fox News.
Bill O'Reilly read a brief statement on the air from the DOJ noting that the Bush administration employed three lawyers that have also represented terror suspects. O'Reilly did not read the names of the seven on the air.
Who are the DOJ lawyers dubbed the al-Qaeda 7
1. Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department's Civil Division Beth Brinkmann
2. Office of Legal Counsel Attorney Jonathan Cedarbaum
3. Senior Counsel in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General Eric Columbus
4. Office of the Attorney General Official Tali Farhadian
5. Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General Joseph Guerra
6. Office of Legal Counsel Official Karl Thompson
7. Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Civil Division Tony West.
Who are these lawyers and is this yet another indication of the current administration's soft policy approach on handling terrorists?

In addition to the DOJ appointments, Barack Obama appointed Robert Bauer as his chief White House Counsel.
Prior to Mr. Bauer's appointment he was a partner in the law firm Perkins Coie andPresident Obama's personal attorney and the general counsel of the Obama for America presidential campaign.
Robert Bauer's law firm represented Osama Bin Laden's chauffeur and bodyguard, Salim Hamden. The president's lawyers represented Hamden free of charge and protested the military tribunal that President Bush established.
The al-Qaeda operative was subsequently freed and released to Yemen. It took an act of Congress to reestablish military tribunals for enemy combatants.
Robert Bauer is also the husband of Anita Dunn, the former WH communications director that voiced her admiration for Chairman Mao to a group of graduating high school students.

Neal Katyal, mentioned in the first paragraph, also worked on Hamden's defense, blasting our system prosecuting the terrorist. Mr. Katyal was rewarded by the Obama administration with a DOJ appointment.
These developments may provide an indication as to why the Obama administration has ignored the guilty plea from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind of the 9/11 terror attacks, and the administration's desire to transfer him to a NYC court for a civilian trial.
Click here to view video detailing the confession of KSM.
The 9/11 terrorists desired a venue to air their anti-American views after the attacks; acivilian trial in NYC will grant them that wish.
Bipartisan pressure prompted the president to announce he is considering a different venue for KSM, more on that here.
Perhaps, it is a mere coincidence that the Obama administration has a penchant for appointing radical czars and terror lawyers to the DOJ. Perhaps, appointing lawyers such as those dubbed the al-Qaeda 7 has nothing to do with ideology or nefarious policy goals.

Post a CommentYou could claim what you want about the lawyers. However, if these terrorists are to be tried by our court system, they are entitled to a lawyer even if one has to be appointed by the court. I oppose slandering lawyers for doing their job. However, I also think that terrorists should be tried by a military tribunal. If the terrorist happens to be a US citizen than that terrorist should be tried for treason.
I don't mind them being careful of inciting further attacks but I'd like to see justice :)
I agree with Ventre! It so nice to know we people who don't mind if terrorists are returned to the field to kill our soldiers! Under Obama we are in safe hands!LOL
I have loved ones fighting overseas as we speak Anthony. Excellent points my friend..it is refreshing to read your comments.
Good point, Tony--9 ideologues in Justice plus the AG make 10. When Grassley requested the names of the new hires, the WH would only release 2 names. If they're so proud of them, then why try to hide the names (at first)? Everyone's got a right to representation, true, but people have a right to know who's representing what and from what motivations. And then one of those lawyers you mentioned said, unless charges were filed, she didn't care if enemy combatants returned to the field to kill American soldiers. That's something you want to know when you go to the voting booth, isn't it? Doesn't everyone know some kid in Iraq or Afghanistan? Screw that!
The terrorists certainly have a right to counsel. This is a matter of activist lawyers going out of their way to defend these guys as a matter of ideology as opposed to professional obligation. The lawyers, including the presidents personal lawyer & chief WH counsel, that defended Osama's bodyguard & the American Taliban certainly made no bones about their sympathy & support for these terrorists. That's fine..BUT that should also exclude them from serving in the DOJ. ANYONE choosing to work in the camp of the enemy as a means of SUPPORT for them, legal or otherwise should not be able to obtain a security clearance to work in the DOJ.
I'd have to know a whole lot more about our history of trying terrorists and the military tribunal protocol before I could comfortably state one way or another. How I understand it - terrorists have the right to counsel even in a military tribunal. Are the lawyers who opt to defend them evil or do they just believe in the system? However, the conflict of interest point may be a relevant one and worth investigating. Good stuff, as always, Tony.
Notice..no one is bringing up conflict of interests and attorney client privilege. Imagine..getting collared for a crime, hiring a lawyer to defend you..then years later getting arrested again and lo & behold it's your old pal sitting at the prosecutor's table...or taking part in the investigation that led to your arrest.
If there was nothing to hide, the names of the appointees wouldn't have been such a closely held secret. Starting at the top with Eric Holder, we now have an American Justice Department with bias, sympathy, and some personal connections with our enemies. Imagine the horse trading that will go on behind closed doors. And now they're mad at Liz Cheney for merely reporting news.... and a bit of derisive satire in calling them the "Al Qaeda Seven." It will be interesting to watch these people you mention going forward and as they become involved in terrorist trials.
I cannot understand the thought processes of this administration...or perhaps the truth behind it is just too frightening to accept... Thanks for another good report.
