Yes, one lies deep inside your mind
For some that ego is brave or a little evil
For others, it is funny or kind
It sits there waiting for the right moment
To emerge from its cozy shell
To make its presence known to the world
Its buried story longing to tell
Most of us try to keep that ego hidden
So different from what we let the world see
There should be a day we let those egos run wild
A day we say, "Okay, today you are free!"
Well, that could be a little messy
Maybe some secrets should not be revealed
Like an expunged juvenile criminal record
Our egos should sometimes be erased or sealed
Although it would be fun
To put it out there on display
To gauge the reaction of those around us
A new frightened respect may just come our way
Alas, most of us lack the courage
To let our alter ego run wild
It's better to conform to a quiet existence
And to live a life that is deemed "normal" and mild
But look around and see the signs
Alter egos do not always stay underground
They bubble slowly to the surface
And burst on the scene in ways so profound
Once in a while let it breathe
Let that alter ego soar into the open air
You might find it to be a liberating experience
And one, that those around you, might love to share
