If you didn't know, The Amalfi Coast is made up of several enchanting, almost fairy-tale, villages clinging
precariously to the steep rocky cliffs of the south-western shoreline of Italy. Now, hold on a second... Before you judge me too quickly, let me suggest that you may be suffering from the same exact "problem". Well, let me put it this way, if you're not completely infatuated with the villages, people and scenery of the Amalfi Coast, you will be by the time you read this article, and here's why...
Italy's Amalfi Coast is agreed by many to be the single most beautiful place on the planet! If you doubt me
just keep reading and you'll be onboard, trust me. If you've been there, I apologize if that comment forced you to inexplicably blurt out a loud, "AMEN!" And, if you've never been to the Amalfi Coast, well, then just sit back and let me briefly paint a quick picture for you.
Kodak this for a minute...You're traveling south from Naples in a luxury sedan driven by the steady hand of Giuseppe, your hired driver. About 40 minutes into the journey, the road begins to narrow as you
are climbing in elevation.
With your windows down, you're enjoying a fresh cool Mediterranean breeze off the sea, and the driver slows to
navigate another hairpin turn. This has got to be the curviest road ever built, leading you to internally
question the sobriety of the street engineer!
Now let your mind's eye imagine the Deepest blue sky you've ever seen. Sharp cliffs descend into the rocky ocean shore, as the turquoise water violently breaks among the rugged boulders hundreds of meters below.
Never before did you feel so dependent upon a driver as Giuseppe negotiates precision passing with traffic passing northbound on the Amalfi Drive. The south bound journey is not for the faint of heart. But with the wheels just centimeters from the cliff's edge at times, your adrenaline, juiced even more by the dramatic scenery you're
taking in, is fired up.
Invigorating! Exhilarating! Before long, you come upon a storybook village called Positano. Positano is a small seaside village built quite literally on the rocks leading down to neat beachside area. You decide to casually walk along the Bougainvillea covered walkway, where you pass shops, cafes, and various watercolor artists
selling and painting vivid captures of the fashionable, unforgettable hamlet.
Nice. Positano is one of over 10 different like-minded villages along Italy's Amalfi Coast. Each village offering their version of "Heaven" on Earth, in new, previously unimagined ways.
The Romantic Positano, Scenic Ravello, sleepy intrigue of Scala, to the history and fishing of Amalfi. From the quiet fishing villages, to the romantic coastal views... yes it's not hard to become addicted to the Amalfi Coast.
