The Amana name has been around in the house hold appliance industry since the mid 40's. With a popular American brand name it is no surprise that one of the most well-liked gas ranges with consumers is the Amana AGS5730B. Despite the unit's popularity there is a noticeable lack of information available to consumers. Because of this I've decided to share my experience with the AGS5730B.

Product Overview:

Thanks to a number of matching Amana appliances the AGS5730B can be found in countless new constructions and kitchen remodels. It also helps that it is available with a popular stainless steel finish. The unit has a wonderful outward appearance that I've found to be very easy to clean. I have found that a quick wipe down with a damp wash rap will do an adequate job but sometimes leaves streaks, which are to be expected with true stainless. The controls are all intuitively placed on the front of the range and are very simple to use. The included documentation is clear however I believe most consumers will be able to start using their range immediately (no need for directions).

I don't cook very often but for a long time I owned electric powered cook tops. I was excited and nervous to make the jump to gas. Now that I have I will never go back. The burners heat up rapidly and boil water quicker then I have ever experienced on an electric cook top. Also those that are nervous about the switch over to gas need not be with the AGS5730B. It has a special pilot free ignition which will automatically shut off the gas to the unit when it is not in use. The only down side is that the unit will not work unless power is available, so those that enjoy cooking during power outages should probably look elsewhere. There is also a special feature that will automatically shut the range down after 12 hours of continuous use, so that may help to ease those fears of "Oh god did I cut the oven off?".

As far as features this range offers burners with various levels of heat producing capabilities. My favorite is the 5000 btu burner designed for simmering that has yet to burn any of my dishes. Also available are 2, 9000 btu burners and a high output 16000 btu burner. The oven has a self cleaning option has a capacity of 4.5 cubic feet and have found it to do a fantastic job.

Product Value:

Priced at around $1000 this range isn't a steal but it certainly isn't over priced. If you're looking for a nice high quality gas range for a reasonable sum then the Amana AGS5730B is a great option. They I have found it to perform well and look great in the kitchen.
