Ever since my mom's Cocker Spaniel, Cinder, passed away, all of our dogs have been adopted. Most have been adopted from a shelter or a vet's office serving like a shelter. There was Marbles, and now we have Niblet and Woofles. We have two dogs now. However, we did not always have two dogs in the house. This only started when we ended up with a second dog while I had Marbles. However, this second dog was not originally Niblet. This was a chihuahua dachshund mix named Micron. Micron's story is an incredible story.
I was driving home from college and took a route different from the one I usually took due to traffic. As I drove down the alternate road, which was still extremely crowded. From where I was in the car, I could see a small brown dog darting in and out of the traffic. I thought it might know where it was going, but as I watched, I could see it did not know and kept darting between cars. As I realized this, I knew that I could not leave without stopping to ask the family that was outside if it was their dog or if they knew whose dog it was.
I carefully drove and made sure that I did not hit the dog and I turned back down the street. I stopped at the house where I saw the people and asked if it was their dog. They said that they had him and said, "Want him?"
I told them we had a dog, but they said that he would only get hurt if they kept him. They opened my passenger side door and a girl held him and said, "Aw, he's scared." However, she then put him in the car.
I got my sister and we drove to Petsmart as it was the only pet store that did adoption at the time. However, their adoption place was not open as it was near Thanksgiving. We called some other no kill animal shelters, but there were never any answers.
I was afraid of bringing the dog into our house because he was growling at every other dog that was in Petsmart. I was afraid he would try to challenge my dog, Marbles, and that would not be good. However, I finally brought him and my mom loved him. He also loved my mom. When we brought him in the house, he loved Marbles from the first time he saw them. Given how he acted towards all the other dogs that he saw, this was not the reaction that we were expeccting.
My Daddy gave him the name Micron (the family that had him first was calling him Bobby, but he was not responding to that name) and he got his middle name of Squirt because we would call him a Squirmy Squirt. Soon enough, Marbles and Micron were best friends, always playing with each other, chasing each other around the house.
Not long after getting Micron, he became sick. We had no idea what was happening. My mom took him to the emergency vet and then to the vet. It was found that he had Addison's Disease. He had to have prednisone shots every month and medicine at least once a month if not once a day. However, we did not give up on him.
We loved Micron from the day he moved in with us until the day he passed away. I felt bad because I was gone dog sitting and only got home to him as he was passing away. We thought he may have been sick and we were brining him to the emergency vet. We got him there, but the vet gave us the news that by the time we got there, he had passed away. It was a sad night for all of us, but we know he was loved.
The medicines he had to take made his muscles very bulky and it is likely that his little heart couldn't handle how buff his muscles were getting. However, we always have good memories of Micron Squirt Delaney.
