The Amazing Easter Egg Hunt

The Origin of the Easter Bunny

Eggs speckled shades of blues, pinks and yellows,
Hide 'neath the blades of green grass and marshmallows.
Will they be found by a curious child?
Or might they stay hidden, away from the piled?

Cross the way, little ladies are dainty and gentle,
Dressed in their best, with their thoughts sentimental.
They carefully bend back the grass like elastic,
And place pastel-painted treasures inside their baskets.

The pile keeps growing as more and more friends,
Seem to be harvested by little young men.
They grab them with fingers that've been in their mouths,
They squeeze them and crack them and send their shells south.

Some are in bushes and some on the ground,
The fun carries on until all eggs are found.
The boys and the girls then count up their riches,
but one more is added from one young man's britches.

This last little egg that emerged at the end,
Seemed to be laid by a magical hen.
For instead of bright colors normally painted,
This glorious egg was apparently tainted.

The shell was an ugly brown, grey and black,
But just as they grimaced, it suddenly cracked!
What happened next was unusually funny,
As out of the egg hopped a new baby bunny!

The children were taken aback by surprise,
And none of the parents could believe their eyes.
Bunnies in eggs just didn't make sense,
But of course Easter is a miraculous event!

The kids watched in awe as the bunny's ears peaked,
He cleared his throat and began to speak,
"Hello everyone, I'm so glad you're here,
Happy Easter to all - I'll see you next year!"
