The Amazing Race 17," Episode 2 - Crowded Ghana Markets

"The Amazing Race 17" challenge on episode 2
With Ron and Tony eliminated from the race and Jill and Thomas having won the Express Pass last week this promised to be an exciting week on "The Amazing Race 17." There are several teams who need to learn from their poor performance last week and turn up their game a little. It will not be long before the race separates the "cans" from the "cannots."

The teams flew to Accra, Ghana together. Their first task was to find Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Museum. From there they had to find Makola market, a crowded and crazy, busy place. The teams were challenged to sell sunglasses in order to earn their next clue, which was to be found at Peace Motor Sports Store. At this point the teams were given a choice in "Tune In or Check Out," they could deliver a coffin or install an antenna. The easier job seemed to be the coffin delivery, too bad the teams didn't know that before the competition.

The Pit stop was in another crowded market, Kaneshie market.

How the teams competed on week 2 of "The Amazing Race 17"

Jill and Thomas
Jill and Thomas came into week 2 the winners of the first leg of the race. That had to be an exhilarating feeling, not to mention they have a pass that they can use at any time to skip a leg of the race. The important thing now is whether they will be able to wisely strategize the use of the Express Pass.

They may have made a mistake in not using their express pass. Jill took forever to sell sunglasses, but they made up time by choosing the "Check Out" choice.

Andie and Jenna
Andie and Jenna barely made it in ahead of the last contestants on week 1 of "The Amazing Race 17." Jenna took the sales lead on the sunglass job and got her and her mom on the road. They drove around Ghana a long time looking for the second clue, but they were joined but they weren't the only team lagging behind.

Brook and Claire
Brook and Claire were keeping pace with the doctors, Nat and Kat, until the competition got physical on the knight's competition team. Claire is the one who got splatted in the face by a watermelon that backfired from a catapult.

The sunglass challenge looked good for Brook and Claire because they sell things for a living. They were super at selling sunglasses working them better than any television audience. They were among the first to get to work on installing a television antenna, and among the first to finish that task and were the first to the finish line, but it came down to a race with Katie and Rachel.

Chad and Stephanie
Chad and Stephanie fell behind, but they made a good decision to deliver a coffin instead of putting up an anteanna. It pushed them way ahead in the race.

Conner and Jonathan
Conner and Jonathan were pinpointed as the nerds on last week's show, but they did surprisingly well finishing the race. Just like last week, however, they started out by being nice and waiting for Claire and Brooke and Katie and Rachel to get going. When they set out on their own they were once again singing, this time to their cab driver.

Conner and Jonathan had a difficult time installing an anteanna, so they switched tasks and deliverd a coffin. That may have been the one decision that kept them in the game.

Gary and Mallory
Gary and Mallory had a flat tire last week. This week their cab broke down before they made it to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial. They were the last to get the clue at Makola market. It looked like they were doomed to finish last, but a lot can happen when you hire a cab driver in Ghana.

Katie and Rachel
Katie and Rachel were among the first teams to pick the "Check Out" option. They had to deliver a coffin, shaped like a keyboard from the work yard to the shop. There were all kinds of coffins, including birds and cameras. This was a very odd challenge, but it was the easier of the two options and worked to make up for lost time for Rachel and Katie.

Michael and Kevin
Michael and Kevin, a father-son team, are struggling. Michael was in charge of selling sunglasses in the market. While he didn't seem like a sellsman he did have experience in these kinds of street markets. It served him well and they finished the market sunglass challenge in second place. They quickly installed their television antenana and began their race to the finish line. Kevin found knew respect for his father's help in this leg of "The Amazing Race 17."

Nat and Kat
The doctors had a difficult time making the sunglasses sell. They fell into last place selling sunglasses, but opted for the easier task of delivering a coffin. By getting a cab driver who was willing to push it they made up time.

Nick and Vicki
Nick and Vicki came into the game with something to prove. They wanted to show people that they weren't to be judged by their appearance, and that they were as smart and savvy as anyone else in the game. The problem is they finished dead last in the first leg of the race.

Nick sold sunglasses and despite some difficulties managed to get out the market ahead of the doctors.

The finish of "The Amazing Race 17," week 2
Brook and Claire made it to the Pit Stop first and won a trip to Hawaii. They proved themselves a competitive team and are going to be one of the harder teams to beat.

Katie and Rachel finished second.

Michael and Kevin made an amazing turn around and finished third in this leg of "The Amazing Race 17."

Chad and Stephanie finished fourth.

Jill and Thomas finished fifth.

Conner and Jonathan finished sixth, with the doctors on their heels finishing as team number seven.

Nick and Vicki finished eigth.

Fary and Mallory finished ninth, after a terrible day in traffic.

Andie and Jenna finished last. They had a fulfilling experience doing two legs of the race together, but they were eliminated from "The Amazing Race 17."
