Don't hate me for saying this, but the other teams SHOULD be worried about the uber-competitive Romber team. At the start of Episode 3, Rob and Amber are the first to depart the Pit Stop at 11:39 p.m., after finishing first in the race for the second leg in a row. They're followed by Oswald & Danny Joe & Bill, Eric & Danielle, Uchenna & Joyce, Dustin & Kandice, Teri & Ian and Charla & Mirna. Last to depart is David & Mary (Team Kentucky). Mary is still bitching about being passed by her "friends" Charla & Mirna on the way to the pit stop, after David pulled them out of the mud. I like Mary, but as a competitor her priorities are screwed up--she keeps forgetting that the show is called the Amazing Race and NOT the Amazing Friendship. Enough said.
The teams drive four miles to find their next clue at a church, which instructs them to get their behinds to the airport and book a flight to the city of Puerto Montt, Chile with a transfer in Santiago. At the Santiago airport, Charla and Mirna try to jump in front of Teri and Ian. Teri jumps all over 'em while Ian says in a sarcastic voice, "Security please." I'm not a big fan of Ian, especially after his lecherous comment that the Beauty Queen's "jiggling" and such was fun to watch. Ick. But it's always entertaining to see anyone fight with the two-foot-tall Charla.
Road Block: Fish Farming
One team member must transfer 86 large flounder from a water pen to another holding tank. It was amusing to see some of them get all freaked out by this task. "I hate fish!" is heard a number of times, from Danielle and Mirna, who both struggle to pick up the slippery fish. David says he is afraid of fish (now that's hilarious!) but he chooses to do the task anyway. Oswald (or was it Danny? Oh heck, I don't know!) wipes out and drops a load of fish on the ground. Poor big fish. After completing the task, the teams drive to Lamachina for their next task.
Team Romber coordinates directions with Eric and Danielle. Rob comments that he and Amber are working with them because they feel they can easily beat them at the end of the Amazing Race. Okay, that wasn't nice and yep, it adds more fuel to the "I hate Romber" fire many people have going. But is it the truth? We'll have to wait and see.
Detour: "Vertical Limit" or "River Wild"
Teams choose between a 40-foot rock climb or whitewater rafting on category III & IV rapids. All but one team chooses the rafting, even Romber. Amber says "We've done rafting before and I almost died." See, this is why I love the all-star Romber team, especially her. Talk about gutsy. If I almost died doing something, I'm not sure I'd be so quick to do it again, Amazing Race notwithstanding.
Teri falls overboard during the rafting (oh why couldn't it have been Ian?), and she says that was "exciting." Whatever floats your boat, I suppose. Next, the sight of Charla waddling down to the water carrying an oar that's easily twice her height had me in stitches. Her line apologizing about how weird it was to see her in a bathing suit was classic. I'm convinced this team won't make it far in the Amazing Race All Stars, but they sure do make good TV.
Next up, the Pit Stop at Playa Petrahue. Romber arrives first-for the third week in a row-and Phil tells them they've won a full home gym complete with elliptical trainer and exercise bike. The "Beauty Queens" Dustin and Kandice have a bit of bad luck when their car won't start, enabling Uchenna & Joyce and Eric & Danielle to finish ahead of them, 2nd and 3rd respectfully. When the BQs finish 4th, Phil tells them that they forget to pick up one of their clues and need to go back. Lucky for them it doesn't take long and when they return, no one else has checked in, so they're still fourth.
Charla and Mirna scramble to find their car keys, and realize they left them in the changing tent. They're passed by Joe & Bill and end up second to last. David and Mary are the last team to arrive, and Phil makes it official--Team Kentucky is eliminated from the race.
Eight teams are left. Will Rob and Amber continue to dominate and ultimately win the Amazing Race All Stars? Stay tuned.
