Here's why: Since purchasing my first Evo in September of 2010, I had dropped her numerous times before New Year's Eve. My Evo kept on ticking with no apparent damages. On New Year's Eve I wasn't so lucky, and I paid the price for abusing my Evo. Major spider web cracks marred her display (see accompanying pics) after the New Year's Eve tumble. Surely there would be some performance problems now, right? Wrong!
My Evo continued to function beautifully, even if her screen was now bearing an ugly scar. So how do I repay my Evo for her dutiful performance despite such abuse? Well two weeks later (last Saturday) I was cleaning my pool while wearing my Evo and, you guessed it, into the pool she went.
I wish I had video to post, but I jumped in after her, pulled her out, and did what I could to dry her as quickly as I could, dripping water all over the family room. I had heard about using a hair dryer if your phone gets wet, but I don't own a hair dryer, so I wrapped up my Evo in a couple towels and threw her in the clothes dryer. Forty minutes total I think she spun in there.
I took her out and lovingly, hopefully let her sit on my desk for a while before putting the battery back in. WHen I put the battery back in, she made some strange buzzing noises as though saying, "I'd love to work for you, but I...just...can't..." Ah so sad it was! All of our memories together lost... my photos, videos and such gone forever. But we're talking about my Evo here.
The next day, I turned her on and gave it another try. Lo and behold, she booted up! It took a while, but I couldn't believe she actually booted up. I could see the water damage inside, and her face wasn't as clear or bright, but I could see everything.
Initially, two display screens were overlapping and I had to play around to figure out where to touch to do what I wanted, but that went away when I shut her down and booted her back up. Excitedly I tried to access my stored data, but she was having trouble reading the SD card. Incredibly, when I took out the card, cleaned and replaced it, the SD card was readable as well.
You might think that I'm closing in on a happy ending, with my Evo and I reconciled, right? Well, the reconciliation didn't last. A couple of days ago, I noticed the light in her eyes (display screen) getting dimmer, and I couldn't control the brightness in settings. Yesterday things got pretty bad, and My Evo started shutting herself down. She would come back up when I asked, but after several of these occasions, I knew we wouldn't be together long.
Last night, she gave one last buzzing gasp and shut down, totally uncommunicative. That may sound like your significant other, but totally uncharacteristic of my Evo. Anyway, today, my Evo would boot up, but shut right back down again. Sadly, she had given me all she had. There is one bright side to the unexpected week she gave me. I was able to transfer all of my data to my laptop, so I still have the images and sounds of our treasured time together.
Today, I begin a new relationship with my second Sprint PCS Evo. I flirted with a couple other models, but decided that the pain in my wallet was well worth the tried and true, loving performance I know I will receive from "Evo2." The bottom line folks is you can have your iphones with their Apple exclusivity and myriad issues. I love my hassle-free, low maintenance, high performing Evo, and promise to have and hold my second Evo with much more loving care...oh, and I got the insurance this time.

Post a CommentAwesome that you wrote this, T.! You managed to write a review that was both informative and entertaining. If I could afford it, I would buy an Evo too! LOL
