The Amazing Ultima Online Fishing Guide

Fishing is one of the best harvesting skills in Ultima Online because you can get Treasures of Tokuno artifacts, blackrock, exclusive fishing artifacts, white pearls, treasure and hides from fishing. My guide will show you how to fish for loot the right way, gain skill and how to rapidly kill sea serpents for maximum profit.

The biggest money making items you will find fishing are Tokuno Artifacts, Blackrock, White Pearls, Ancient SOS, Ancient Fishing Nets and Horned Hides from the sea serpents. On average, a commodity deed of horned leather hides goes for a premium! White pearls are also extremely valuable because they are an ingredient in crafting recipes. Finding white pearls is fairly rare but not as rare as the ever elusive ancient SOS which is a 1-40 drop from a Message in a Bottle. Horned leather can be a lucrative item because it is highly desirable for bulk order deeds and making resistance armor.

Some professional Ultima Online sellers charge up to 800 gold pieces per piece of horned leather, selling 10,000 at a time for up to 8 million gold. Fortunately, sea serpents yield 11 hides each when cut which means that you can make a substantial amount of money selling hides in addition to the other loot you will find fishing.

First, the map that you fish on makes a huge difference in the fame, quantity and type of loot that you will harvest while fishing. For example, if you fish in Felucca you will get twice as many hides from sea serpents and fame and you can pirate other ships and kill other players but you could also be killed by another player.

If you play on the Trammel map you will get less fame and hides but you will not be killed by other players. However if you fish in the Tokuno Islands, not only do you get the same loot that you would get in Trammel but you also have a chance to get blackrock and Treasures of Tokuno artifacts which will be available only during the Treasures of Tokuno event.

By moving your fisherman to Tokuno's seas now for the event, you will have a competition free zone of high fame monsters that you can dredge up constantly. The Treasures of Tokuno event awards artifacts based of the fame of the creatures that you are killing, adding points each time you kill until an artifact is awarded. Once you have earned ten minor artifacts you can turn them in to receive The Horselord, an artifact bow that is a super slayer of both elementals and reptiles, this is one of the best bows an Ultima Online fisher can get because you will be able to rapidly kill both sea serpents and water elementals with it.

Macros:

The best method to continually find SOS, Fishing Nets and hides is to make an Ultima Online Assist macro that works like this:

Use item (fishing pole)

Target (random mining)

Pause 7500

(Repeat all four times)

Say forward one (repeat four times)

You can set the UO Assist macro to loop if you have a programmable keyboard or gaming pad. This macro works well because you will keep moving very slowly and get all of the resources out of the area you are in without running out of fish. If you find a lot of sea serpents in one area, stop the macro and fight them, once you are out of sea serpents, the macro will move you along to the next hot spot. You can also set up UO Assist to arm your weapon with a keystroke, which is nice because you won't have to search through your backpack to find your weapon.

How to Kill the Sea Serpents Quickly:

One of the best ways to kill sea serpents is to use a character with bushido as your fisherman with a lesser hiryu pet. Place the lesser hiryu on the tile behind the mast and tell it to guard you. When you spawn a sea serpent, the sea serpent will attack you and your lesser hiryu will run to the side of the ship and kill it almost instantly. Then all you need to do is to loot the sea serpent and collect the hides!

Sea serpents are not the most formidable creatures in Ultima Online, a brand new archer with only 50 skill in archery can kill them very quickly. I know fishers who wrestle sea serpents to death. If you have a spell channeling fishing pole, you can kill them quickly as a mage without needing to disarm your fishing pole first.

Miscellaneous Fishing Tips:

Easy Footwear: Use the Ultima Online Assist selling agent to sell all of your footwear to an NPC cobbler. To set it up go to the Agents Tab, then select sell agent off the drop down list, then add each type of footwear you find fishing. Then when you select the cobbler, UO Assist will sell all of your shoes for you, this is much easier than dumping footwear into the water or piling them in dead sea serpents.

Stay In Open Sea Lanes: Use the UO map as your guide, stay in wide open areas of the sea so that you stay in deep water and will find more Sea Serpents. Good sea lanes are, West of Skara Brae along the server line, between Moonglow and Nujelm, south of Jhelom and north of Yew, South of Zento, East of Zento.
