Right now, all over the Middle East, as the conflict rages on Israel's attacks on Gaza, it is not just the Israeli flag getting torched but most often the American flag, or a picture of George Bush, is getting torched right next to the Israeli flag.
While many Americans remain oblivious to the attacks on Gaza, thinking that they are in a distant land and do not relate to our nation, other Americans know the truth, that when conflict roils the Middle East it directly impacts America and the safety of our citizens.
The Iraq war has inflamed hatred against America. Now, the Gaza attacks are inflaming that hatred to almost unprecedented levels. The media is full of pictures of the American flag being burned all over the Middle East.
What thoughts come to your mind when you see that image? When I see the American flag being torched I think about terrorist attacks, war, a draft, and the loss of freedom for young Americans.
Americans do not have a say in the decisions the Israeli government makes, but their actions incite hatred to our country. I am an American and I disapprove of the vehemence of the attacks on Gaza. I think too many innocent children are being murdered in the attacks. I think diplomacy would be a better action. Another option would be targeting the leaders of Hamas for assassination. But to drop hundreds of tons of bombs daily on an area packet tightly with civilians is unconscionable in my opinion.
Hamas started the violence by shooting rockets at Israel. That is unacceptable. However, Israel has overreacted and is bombing Gaza to such a level it may never recover. If Gaza was dropping this many bombs on Israel the world would be much more outraged.
Hillary Clinton is going to have a lot of work to do immediately when she starts her new job. The Middle East, particularly Gaza and Iraq, require immediate attention. I am sure she is watching the news and is daily seeing the American flag burned in the nations across the Middle East. Hillary your diplomatic skills are in dire need by America.

Post a CommentI can't argue with the thought that if the bombs were reversed against Israel, there would be more worldwide outrage.
Hey Julia, good news. That's not the American flag! Did you look at that thing they were burning with 3 rows of stars and skinny little stripes? Although it apparently is supposed to be, it is not the American flag!
Gayle makes a poignant observation. "W" Bush has destroyed America more effectively than any outside force ever could.
I don't know if the US can ever regain what was lost. Like other forms of racism, it will take generations of work to overcome what has happened over the past few years. Thanks for the great article!
