The Annual Smithfield, Ohio Apple Festival

Do you like fresh apple cider? How about mouthwatering apple pie? It is rumored that Jefferson County has the best apples anywhere in the world. I live here. I agree.

They are full of flavor because of the harsh winters and rainy summers. The sun is hot, and the air is humid. As the trees struggle to grow, the apples hoard flavor.

Is it any wonder that the local Apple Festival has become a favorite?

Contests and Events

The Pet Parade: Dress your pet in a costume and be judged for best dressed, best festival theme, largest and smallest pets. You can even bring your iguana. The show will be on September 25 at 10:00 near the stage.

The Big Wheels race: You don't have to supply your tricycle as in former years, since the festival coordinators have acquired enough to go around. This race is at 12:00 on September 25.

The Car Cruise-In: September 26 will also see vehicles ranging from 1930's to 1970's.

5K Race: 9:00 a.m. on September 26, is when the race will start. Provide the $10.00 entry fee and get a free T-shirt.

Youth Basketball Tournament: The recreation complex will host this event at 10:00 a.m. on September 26.

The Apple Baking Contest is at 11:00 am on September 26. All baked goods will be auctioned for charity.

The Apple Eating Contest and the Hot Dog contest will follow the auction.

Apple Peeling Contest: This year's event is being held at 12:30 p.m. on September 26.

The Grand Parade will be held at 5:00 pm on September 26.

The Old Fashioned Bed Race will be at 5:00 pm on September 27.

Come prepared to eat. There will be funnel cake vendors, and sandwich makers.
