The Answer to America's Problems: Not Nancy Grace

CNN's Obtuse Maiden of Lies

Ford Simmons
In an age where America seems so morally and economically confused, our country needs social and political figures in the news and on television who proudly and truthfully guide we citizens into an age where "left" and "right" become "one." Unfortunately, we cannot look to our leaders in Congress or the White House for any type of moral compass and leadership. Democrats and Republicans are too busy catering to the lobbyists and bickering amongst themselves to do anything serious to improve our country's welfare. We could turn to the media, but all we find in our newspapers and magazines are biased reporters seeking to make a buck by bypassing truth for exposure and readership. So who do we turn to in this time of partisanship and apathy?

One friend, who I shall remain nameless, suggested a name to help America that almost made me gag at the thought of being influenced by such a figure. This person is none other than CNN's Nancy Grace. When my nameless friend blurted her name out while we were flipping channels, I laughed out loud, so loud in fact, I almost sounded like Nancy Grace. At the thought of THAT, I almost wanted to jump out of the window. That example is how much I think of Nancy Grace.

Nancy Grace is a loud-mouthed, abrasive, and obnoxious individual who, much like Bill O'Reilly, talks over her guests, opponents, and even her own co-workers. One night, as a picture of a bald Britney Spears appeared on the screen and Grace was repeatedly asking why a picture of Britney was still there, the camera cut to the control room, where she began ripping a hole into her producers and staff for not changing the still picture. Why would you embarrass your own employees on national television over such a trifling matter? Thus is the character of Nancy Grace, a woman whose loud voice and annoying demeanor landed her a show on CNN. That is not the worst part, however.

Worse than her skewed and biased opinions on such notable court cases such as the Duke Lacrosse Scandal, the Chris Benoit Murder/Suicide, and the Anna Nicole Smith death, is her awful, uneducated voice. Granted, she does have her Masters degree from an accredited university, but one must wonder how Nancy Grace even was accepted into Mercer with her "voice of redneck wonder." Her voice is like a cross between a duck and a drunken Gretchen Wilson after a night out in Bunkville, Tennessee. She stumbles on her words as much as she does her facts, and when she stumbles with both, it makes her sound completely void of any education whatsoever. For example, when she blamed Chris Benoit's murder and suicide on the fact he was sad over being kicked out from a "stable" (the Four Horsemen, which he hadn't been a part of in 10 years), she sounded like a stoned truck-driver who talks out of his rear-end. She is irresponsible, unbelievable, and untrustworthy. Consider this: why would CNN keep a host on air who, after an interview with a young mother whose daughter was kidnapped, went on "Good Morning America" and claimed that guilt made the girl commit suicide, not Nancy's relentless bashing of the poor, confused girl?

Sure, some of you may say, "Well Ford, you claim we need unbiased moral people to help this country get back on the right track. Aren't you being a little biased and rude towards Nancy Grace?" Fair enough. However, if we do not point out the blatant flaws in our society, how can our country ever recover from our slumber of ineptitude? Media members such as Nancy Grace serve no place in the reconstruction of our country into something we can be proud of once more, and belong off our screens and into their homes where they can keep their dumbfounded opinions to themselves.
