The anti-aging benefits of resveratrol have become popular over recent years, touting it's ability to maintain optimum health and promote longevity. Resveratrol is a natural antibiotic derived from a plant called Vitis Vinifera which used resveratrol to attack molds it encountered. It can be abundantly found in red wines normally, however the use of pesiticides in wine has worked to decrease resveratrol's content in wine, as stated on Life Extension's summarization of this supplement provided on it's supplement website.

Powerful Anti-Oxidant

Resveratrol is known for it's capability to quench free radicals otherwise known as oxidants that in abundance can lead the way to cancer of various types. It has been highly recommended in alternative health circles that I was involved in while owning and operating my health food store, for the use of breast cancer prevention as well as cancer in general. Without daily cleanup from resveratrol as well as other types of anti-oxidants free radicals build and eventually are capable of creating a cancerous environment.

Anti-aging Benefits

In funded research from the Life Extension foundation, resveratrol was found to duplicate a lot of the favored expression that's desired of specific genes that emerged in the calorie restricted animals they used in this study with as little as 20 milligrams of this resveratrol. This occurred when it was combined with grapeseed extract to enhance these health benefits.

Increased Energy Levels

Resveratrol has been recognized for the enhancement of mitochondrial cellular function within our body. Within the mitochondria is a coenzyme called ATP or andenosine triphosphate. This substance functions by transporting chemical types of energy within cells to run our metabolism functions. Resveratrol appears to enhance this process to create improved energy levels.

Pterstilbine and Resveratrol

According to Life Extension's research, another compound with similar characteristics to resveratrol called pterstilbine was found to work synergistically with resveratrol for a greater combined result of it's positive anti-aging health benefits, much like the caffeine in green tea. You can take the caffeine out of the green tea, but you end up with less health benefits of the tea as a whole rather than leaving the whole tea in tact for greater benefit Pterstilbine and resveratrol combined have a greater impact together on you health as a whole as opposed to separately.
