The screen on the iBook G4 looks bigger then 12.1 inches and it is very clear. I have never had a problem with my screen in all the years I have owned this computer. The iBook G4 can run OS X 10.5 Leopard, but not 10.6 Snow Leopard because the G4 processor is not an Intel type processor. Snow Leopard has officially left the G4 processor in the past. The G4 Processor remains a big player in today's computing world however. The iBook G4 only weighs 4.9 pounds and is white in color, in fact it is really white and it stands out from the rest of the room. Many people notice it when they walk in my house and pick it up and start playing with it. It is a very friendly looking computer and you just want to touch it and go on it and surf the web and type things up. The keyboard is very nice as well.
You can purchase an iBook G4 pretty cheap these days. The original retail on the iBook G4 was $999-$1299, now you can have your own iBook at less then half that. Some of them go on eBay for as little as $200. They will do anything that a newer computer will do.
Like the iBook G3, the iBook G4 had a problem where the graphics chip would become dislodged, making the computer boot up with nothing on the display. Obviously, plugging in an external monitor would do nothing, as the actual graphics chip is dislodged from the motherboard. A shim will temporarily fix this if it is placed underneath the graphics chip on the iBook G4. A more permanent fix is to actually re flow the solder under the chip, but this is risky as one risk frying the entire motherboard and then your iBook G4 will be little more then a door stop. Apple used to have a program where they would repair the broken iBook G4s with the bad graphics chip, but that program was discontinued in late 2007.
If you are looking for a cheap and affordable alternative to today's extremely expensive computers, especially the Macbook Pro and other Apple products. Check out an iBook G4 on eBay.
