I think it is over hyped. There are many other phones out there with more features and probably cost less. The iPhone cost $499 for the four gigabyte version and $599 for the eight gigabyte version. If you ask me, that is way over priced for a phone! People can only hope that a contract with AT&T can lower that price a bit. Sure the phone has touch screen, but do you really need touch screen for something you're mainly going to talk on? I feel like phone's features in general are starting to be ridiculous. I mean some of them are nice, don't get me wrong, but that does not keep them from being unnecessary. I personally think that the Apple iPhone is giving us what over phones can gives us, but sticking the Apple logo on it and over pricing the heck out of it.
No matter what you think of the Apple, you can not deny there success. They have revolutionized the MP3 player and online music with the iTunes music store. Apple's Mac desktop and notebooks are gaining market share little by little each and every month, but can the on going success with these products link to the iPhone's success? My answer is yes. People are pre-ordering this every chance they get. June 29, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. (iPhone's release date) every AT&T store will be packed with people excited to get their hands on the iPhone. I honestly think that people do not care about what features it has. They are just happy to know that Apple made it. I bet that AT&T is so excited to get this product. They are most likely going to rack up millions with the iPhone.
Now that the iPhone is coming out, you can believe that there are going to be other phones that mimic the iPhone. It's that "They did it, maybe we can" attitude. Many companies have failed while trying to mimic the iPod and I'm sure that they are going to fail while mimicking the iPhone. My advice to those companies is to stick with your own thing, who knows; you may get lucky and get something that sells.
All in all, look for the Apple iPhone to be one of the most successful products in the phone industry.
