The Aquarium

Patrick W. Marsh
We were below the bay,
you and I.
The deep, it was blue, the underwater sky
with tunnels glowing full of monsters, creatures,
beauties of the deep.
This was our first place, our first trip.
San Francisco the city on the bay, with cement hills,
old buildings, wrapped in wind and fog.
We had no car. I lost my debit card. We
walked from one end of the world to the other.
We mastered the B.A.R.T. the rail, the tunnels
and the moving lights.
We ran the boardwalks, the piers, and the wharf's.
We got blisters, blood, and sweat.
We ate fish, rode the trolleys, and walked china-town.
And in a plane borne glimmer it was over,
nothing but a memory.
Still photos live, and the water bends,
and the animals still stir there,
like they remember.
