The Arkansas State Fair: Family, Food and Fun

Every year for a week in October, we have the Arkansas State Fair; it is held in Little Rock, Arkansas at the State Fairgrounds. There are plenty of rides, food, and fun things to do there. People travel from all over the state as well as out of state to attend the fair. There are different discounts available on different days; such as Coca Cola Kiddie Day. This is the day that children twelve and under get in for free along with their parents and ride for free from 8a-12p. Another popular day is when the ladies get in for free; this is normally on Thursday night between 6p-10p.

The main attraction this year is the deep fried Coca Cola; yes you read correctly. Mixing coke and batter into a blender, forming it into little donut holes, deep frying it, then it's placed in a plastic cup with coke syrup and whip cream on top. Since I am a coke fan this is something I will definitely be trying. I'm sure that the deep fried Twinkies, Oreos, and Snickers are still going to be big sellers just the same. But if you don't have a sweet tooth, be sure to have one of the gigantic turkey legs, gyros, foot long corn dogs, or polish sausages with onion and bell pepper.

The Hall Of Industry is where you can go to different booths and purchase things such as: Carmel apples, jewelry, incense, perfumes among other things. A tank stands in the middle of the building that holds all types of fish. There is always this one catfish in the tank as big as a medium sized dog.

Kiddie land is a place to take the younger children; there are little motorcycles, cars, and pony rides as well as a petting zoo. Of course there are rides for the kids at heart as well. My favorite ride is the "Gravitron", it is this huge spaceship and you have to stand against the wall; there is no need for any type of restraint because once it starts spinning the force of gravity will not allow you to even lift your head up. If you are a cowboy at heart; be sure to catch one of the many rodeos or livestock shows.

If by some chance you want a little memento of your trip to the fair; be sure to stop by one of the many booths to take a picture. You can have it turned into a poster, t-shirt, or placed in a cute little frame with the message of your choice. Normally this is not something I do, but this year I've decided to try something different. I will be going today for some serious chowing down, and again on Saturday for the rides. Unless you have a cast iron stomach it is best not to mix the two. If ever you find yourself in Little Rock during the month of October(usually the second week). Please feel free to bring the family for a good time at the fair!

LOL to Annette's comment. I pretty much do not drink soda anymore, but dag, I want to try one of those deep fried Coca Colas! Enjoy the way you wrote this. I would never be daring enough to eat a catfish of any size, even tho' I have cooked quite a few~many times smaller than that one.
