After checking out different games on the Nintendo website for the DS, I came across the Army Defender; it was the perfect game. His grandpa is in the Army, his two uncles are in the Army, it seemed like the perfect game. It's as if anything Army is kind of like a family tradition. Plus the game had just come out so it was unlikely that he already had the game. Also, since the Army Defender was listed as a strategy game, I thought it would be beneficial for him in helping him learn to work things out.
In the game, the Army Defender, a soldier is in a machine gun tower protecting his/her base against enemy attack. As the defender gets better at his job of defending, he goes up to the next level where the enemy is more numerous and better equipped. But the next level helps the Defender out as well, he has more, and bigger and better weapons in which to do his job.
The game is supposed to be for kids 10 and up, but I think that kids a little younger could play this game without much trouble, if they were used to playing strategy games. It's a very easy game to learn, and its two playing levels, beginner and experienced, will give plenty of fun playing hours.
If there is a negative side to the game, it would probably be that after a while it gets kind of boring. Basically, each time the game is played it is the same thing over and over again. The player works at getting a better score. But it is still a lot of fun. It is a game for 1 player, kind of like Solitaire. There is no online competition against another player, but two different players can take turns trying to best each other's score.
All in all, it is a fun game, and at a cost of only 200 points, it is affordable fun for everyone.
