The Art Essay: It's Value

In every area of study, students are required to showcase their knowledge through writing. The art essay is designed to explore the current knowledge that you have about the particular topic that is being studied, and articulate these ideas through words in an essay. You might be studying the effects of shadowing in work. You would want to address certain pieces and artists that showcase this talent well in their art. You would have to put words to the style of the artist and express how this technique provides life to the piece. It is important to be able to express in your own words information about works of art, artists' that contributed to art culture, as well as techniques and purposes in art. That is what the main purpose of the art essay. You might even be writing an art essay as your personal statement for an admissions essay.

Professors generally outline the topics that they would like for you to express in an art essay. It is up to you to follow these guidelines, along with the formatting standards required, and to provide your own insight into the topic of study. Artists need to be able to express in words why they are using particular techniques when it comes to their own art. These resources are essential since they can provide models for us to help us when expressing our own views.
