The Art of Growing Old Gracefully

S. Ann
Growing old is often more difficult for women that it is for men. First, women will have to undergone the menopausal stage, which could bring about a lot of physical and emotional disturbances. Women often start feeling the symptoms of menopause when they reach the age of late 40's and early 50's. Menopause means that the female body starts to lose its capacity to bear children. Since the menopausal stage brings about hormone changes that could affect the disposition of the woman, she could turn from a very sweet lady to a grouchy person who would get irritated easily.

In some cases, women having menopause symptoms would feel very emotional that they would take offense very easily and would become really difficult to live with. Of course they do not mean to be very disagreeable but there are times when they simply cannot control their anger or their irritation over small things and they tend to react out proportion. However, the good news is that as soon as the menopausal stage passes, a woman could regain her sweet and kind disposition.

Second, women tend to look less appealing as they grow older. Women who have been really proud of their looks would often find themselves looking less and less appealing as they age. As women ages, they could go thicker around the middle and no matter how hard they try to keep excess fat off, it will just come right. Since most women are very much concerned about their looks, looking old and gray could be very stressful for lot of women all over the world.

How can woman age gracefully? One of the best ways to age gracefully is to accept the fact that you are indeed growing old. Do not fool yourself that you are still young and that you can still look as good as those women who are 10 years or even 20 years younger than you are. Even if you use cosmetic surgery to make yourself younger, there are still some signs of old age. Since your energies would often wane and your bone density would diminish over time, you could not really expect to do all the things that you used to do when you were younger.

Aging gracefully means accepting yourself for who you are. Growing old is not really that bad. There are many things that you can still do even if you are already past the age of 60. If you have been leading such an active and productive life when you were younger, this is now the time for you to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
