The dimly lit room turns dark and in front of you a screen is lit telling you to be quiet because you are about to be transported into a whole different world for the next couple of hours. This world may have nothing to do with reality or it maybe it is a time travel to few years back or decades or hundreds years or even thousands of years. It might take you to the future or even the present. It might take you to another place in the world or few places at once. The point is, your worries, your thoughts, whatever you have on your mind suddenly dissipate and you become completely engulfed into that world. You laugh, you cry, you are scared, you are angry, you are in suspense. You are enjoying yourself because you are watching a movie.
Some people are movie buffs. Some people enjoy going to the movie theater once in a while. Some people rarely go to the movie theater and some people do not go at all. However, no matter which person you are, you still enjoy movies because movies became a part of every culture and now there is a movie for every taste or mood you are in. You can watch a comedy if you want to laugh or a sad movie if you want to cry or an action movie if you simply want to see someone get beat up. Even if you deny that you like movies or if you claim that all movies are a waste of time and money, there is a movie that touches you and you cling to. To some, it could be a story of a hero or a romantic story or even a political story. Reality is, movies take part of our lives and sometimes influence our lives.
Who could forget movies like the Titanic which was a part of household conversations? How many discussions started because of a movie? Who could forget massive icons like the Godfather or Rocky or 007 or even Lord of the Rings? The titles are numerous which varies from action movies to romantic to comedy to horror. These movies made such an impact on our lives that it would be ridiculous to ignore it.
There is no doubt however, that movies have been suffering lately because of the incredible knowledge media, the reality media and even video games boom. There is the daily celebrity gossip and news on shows such as Extra or E! Entertainment, a complete channel, which is the portal to the star lives and drama. Furthermore, there is the internet where one can make movies and clips by using YouTube or other websites and become suddenly famous. There are also the reality television shows which consume a lot of attention and brain cells. Last but not least is the video games where one does not need heroes anymore and can became the action hero of their own virtual world on Xbox or Play station. I disagree however, that movies could one day disappear because no matter how advanced we can get, movies will always be part of our culture because it is something that we all appreciate. You can maybe become a hero in your XBOX but you won't know really your enemies you are shooting at. You won't know why they are shooting at you and what brought them there. You may like reality television but sooner or later you will get bored of it because technically it is the same story over and over that does not change. You may get addicted to YouTube but everyone has there 15 minutes of fame and when that is done, you will also be watching a movie.
Movies are an expression of art that many people get to appreciate. Any movie require the talent of hundreds of people to make it a reality. Any movie require a lot of hard work and thousands of hours just to make a two hour movie because believe it or not every glance, every turn, every angle and even every sound requires work to make it all harmonious in the end. Movies are also our fingerprint on this earth because every generation has its own problems and these problems are generated in those movies we watch. Movies ignite our imagination and transcends us into another world for a period of time that no drug, legal or illegal, can come close to. Movies reveal truths that our reality obscures.
