The Audacity of Audacity Watch

Bryan Belrad
A few days ago, the GOP launched a new website to help counter Barack Obama's seemingly unstoppable message of hope. The goal is to help people believe in cynicism again, so that they might bring themselves to vote for the "right" man for President in November.

The method is simple - post something negative about every single thing Barack does. For example, when Barack decides on a running mate, something every nominee does eventually, we can expect to see a headline on Audacity Watch excoriating him for his presumption:

"Choosing a VP candidate? It's like he thinks he's President already, and the election is just a 'mere' formality! (Expect to hear that line a lot in the coming months) The Audacity!"

In all fairness, Audacity Watch does feature - prominently - every single one of Sen. Obama's misstatements. Like, remember when he said all "57 states" would have their say, instead of '57 primaries'? You can find it there.

But the truly interesting thing about Audacity Watch is not in its content, which frequently over-reaches to the point of absurdity in its zeal to make "the Messiah" look like the worst parts of G. W. and Paris Hilton rolled into one - the most amazing part of the site is just a tiny little banner.

The links on Audacity Watch redirect the unwary reader to the official GOP website, where the "fair and balanced" spinning of real events takes place. At the top of each page, there is a graphic based on the Constitution. But, where we might expect to see the words "We the People", this image has be re-written to read "Republican National Committee".

That's right - the United States is no longer the government "of the people, by the people, and for the people" as the very first Republican President so eloquently put it, but has now become the exclusive dominion of our somewhat less than benevolent Republican Party dictators. By their own declaration, no less!

The imagery says it all - presumption, arrogance, ego... The GOP have outdone themselves on this one. And it's linked up to a site criticizing Sen. Obama for the terrible crime of being Audacious (something that he himself freely admitted on the title of his first book).

The Audacity...

As for me, I have to laugh; otherwise I'll end up crying.

Re: Orchiolium's comment - I fail to see how the Democratic Party any less epitomizes greed, selfishness (blocking all Republican bills from even being discussed while voting on their own within weeks), lack of honor or courage ("Yes, Pres. Bush, let's go get 'em over in Iraq"... "oops, wait a minute...this doesn't look good...we better pull out"). However, Bryan, thanks for your "scorpion" reminder to me. As nice as I try to write, if it includes stuff they don't like the opposition won't see it that way. But at least you understood I was using a parable up front! Some people thought it was true!

Nice red herring, BlowHard. Of course Obama's materials have a pro-Obama bias; no rational person would dispute that. But the issue here isn't the site's anti-Obama bias - that's expected, RNC incompetance included. As the article plainly spells out, the problem I see with Audacity Watch is the presumption the GOP shows in their symbolic 'over-writing' of the Constitution. It is a powerful statement in just how far they have fallen in their pride and arrogance, believing that they are subject to rules that far surpass those that hold sway over us "mere peasants". The irony, of course, is that they make this flaw so visibly evident within their propagandist rantings that are intended to condemn Obama for his own delusions of grandeur. To wit, it is unwise to tell a voter 'never trust a liar' and then proceed to tell him an obvious lie - he won't trust you, by your own word. Best of all, I bet the RNC doesn't even realize there's a problem, their divine ordination is so "obvious" to them

Damn Orch, I thought your were a more understanding and less abrasive sort. No worries though - you're still a fine guy as far as I'm concerned. And Bryan: so do you see Obama's campaign having their own sites, Fight the smears, or whatever as the same as the Audacity watch site? I mean, if a repub. site can't be trusted to be objective, how can Obama's fight the smears site be so? Fight the smears is Obama's campaign run site to fight the republican smears and tell the true facts about the Messiah. Or will you maintain that any Obama/DNC site is 100% objective and factual? Please respond sir so that I may understand.

If I were a member of a political party responsible for the senseless deaths of thousands of world citizens and the plundering of American's inspiration and resources during the past 8 years, I'd hide behind a tiny little banner too. Today's Republican Party generally epitomizes greed, selfishness, lack of honor or courage. They have traveled far beyond embarrassment, residing now in dangerous to the Constitution territory. Jerks.
