For the sake of this article, we will focus on hybrid technology and the advancements that we can expect to see as the automotive industry more fully adopts this emerging technology. As AutobloGreen reports, hybrid vehicles operate off of a relatively simply principle, but can be quite complex to develop and produce. The typical hybrid vehicles touts a gasoline engine, supplemented by an electric motor, a battery supply and regenerative brakes. The hybrid setup is simple: a gasoline or diesel engine provides motivation with assistance from the battery and electric motor. The batteries are recharged through regenerative braking. The typical hybrid powertrain can boost efficiency by up to 30 percent, but it comes at a significant cost. Hybrids typically bear a price premium over their non-hybrid counterparts, which, according to AutoblogGreen, sometimes commands a premium of well over $5,000 for the high-tech fuel boosting gadgetry found within.
The benefits of a hybrid powertrain are quite simple. The setup improves fuel efficiency and the vehicles typically drives much like a conventional car, while using much less gas, of course. While hybrids are quite common, there's a high likelihood that this type of advanced technology vehicle will become even more common soon. As reported by AutoblogGreen, various automakers including Volkswagen, Porsche, Toyota, Honda and many more have several hybrid models planned within the newt few years, so expect many more hybrid option to choose from soon. Of course, there are currently many hybrid on the market right now. Some of the hot-selling models include the Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Mercury Milan Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, the new Honda CR-Z and several more.
Though hybrid vehicles are quite efficient and help us dial back our gasoline usage, there are several other types of vehicles out there that either cost less to produce, save more fuel, use no fuel at all, or operate off of an entirely different type of fuel. So if you're interesting in finding out about some of the other options that are on the automotive horizon, be sure to check back for some related articles coming soon.
