The Avengers Trailer Emerges in Batman, Harry Potter's Shadow

The Avengers trailer wasn't supposed to be out for another week. In fact, not many moviegoers were talking about The Avengers, since all the buzz was on The Dark Knight Rises trailer and the Harry Potter finale. But while Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Dark Knight Rises worked in tandem for a record-setting weekend, another super tandem will try to steal the spotlight for next weekend.

Just as the third Batman movie is showing its first look in front of Deathly Hallows Part 2, next summer's other massive superhero epic is showing its first look in front of this weekend's big new release, Captain America. Yet the first teaser for The Avengers seems to have been leaked online early, just as the Dark Knight Rises teaser did.

Cinemablend has two version of the potential clip, although one has already been deleted by Paramount Pictures. The studio will probably get to the other one before long, but for now fans are trying to analyze the minute long clip that shows Captain America and his other future teammates in action together.

The footage allegedly shows after the end credits for Captain America: The First Avenger, which is no surprise. Past Marvel movies like the two Iron Mans, The Incredible Hulk and Thor have shown teasers and cliffhangers at the very last second as well. But this trailer is the biggest one yet, since it is the debut for a movie that has been years in the making.

Although Christopher Nolan's last Batman film got a massive boost of hype this past week, it still might not be the biggest epic of next summer. The Avengers is even more jam packed with heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and several other Marvel characters that have already been seen onscreen. Marvel Studios has set its coming union up for years, and now it will finally arrive in a year under the direction of TV cult icon Joss Whedon.

Will combining this highly anticipated trailer with a highly anticipated movie work for Avengers and Captain America like it did for The Dark Knight Rises and Harry Potter? Given that Deathly Hallows set the record for largest opening weekend, this is highly doubtful. But at the least the Avengers teaser looks to reveal more action than the one for Batman did, which is obvious despite the low quality of the bootleg video.

This will also start building buzz for Captain America, which has been largely forgotten in the midst of the Potter and Batman madness, despite being the last superhero epic of the summer -- and the last before Marvel's grand team-up. The First Avenger will show himself Friday while the rest of his team seems set to join him at the very end, before their full debut in summer 2012.
