The Democratic Party is having their national convention this year in Denver, Colorado. However, Denver also has the Colorado Rockies and many other reasons to visit the city. The Denver restaurants can either be part of the reason for coming to Denver or a pleasant surprise when you travel to Denver for other reasons.

One Denver restaurant that you possibly want to visit would be "The Avenue Grill". This restaurant has reasonably priced eclectic food but there is a bent towards San Franciscan style food.

The Avenue Grill is open from 11am to 11pm Monday through Friday; it is open from 11am to midnight on Saturday and 5pm to 10pm on Sunday. It is located at 630 East 17th Street Denver, Colorado 80203. The telephone number is 303-861-2820.

To begin with, on Mondays, The Avenue Grill offers a great special; "The Monday Night Prime Rib Special". It is a traditional favorite of a ten-ounce Prime Rib; hearty country cut style potatoes; au jus; Chef's choice veggies, as well as creamy horseradish for just $16.00.

There are a number of appetizers you can start with. These include "Tempura Gulf Prawns" which are Thai chili-lime daikon radish, bell-pepper and snow-pea slaw ($10) and "Samosa Egg Rolls" which are bell peppers, sweet peas, curried potatoes and piquillo harissa dip for ($8). Finally, you could get "Oysters Rockefeller" consisting of baked creamed spinach, shallots, hollandaise and lemons for $15. Of course there are many more appetizers such as "Three-Cheeses" and "Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki" but it would be impossible to list them all here.

The Avenue Grill's signature soup is Clam Chowder and the signature sandwich is The Avenue Burger for $9.00.

As you read even the appetizer list, do you begin to see the "San Franciscan" influence?

Several main entrees include "Slow Roasted King Canyon Buffalo" served with chili-lime sauce dill potato salad and vegetables for $20. The Avenue Grill is one of many steak-influenced restaurants that have Buffalo which helps the consumer deal with rising beef and fuel costs.

Another dish that looks really tasty is "Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna" which includes Ponzu butter, Wasabi potatoes, pickled ginger and Samosa egg roll for $23. For the pure steak lover you can obtain an "Avenue Filet Mignon" in Cabernet Sauvignon (great wine!) butter, red mashed potatoes and vegetables for $26.

One added benefit that The Avenue Grill offers include several complete vegetarian offerings including an "Artesian Cheese Plate" which consists of three market cheeses as well as pineapple moustarda and candied walnuts for $13 and a "Sautéed Vegetable Lavosh Sandwich" which consists of sesame flat bread filled with fresh vegetables and warm chevre.

In the event you are able to get to Denver for whatever reason, don't miss out on The Avenue Grill. Whether you love meat, noodles or vegetables, you will truly enjoy yourself.
