The Average Joe:Independent 2008 Presidential Candidate
Guess Who Else is Running for President in 2008?
Joe.
Joe who, you ask?
Joe Schriner, the Independent 2008 presidential candidate from Cleveland.
Still don't know who Joe is or why you should care? If, like me, you are not swayed by any candidate representing the major parties, you won't mind shopping around.
Well, Joe Schriner is:
Running on the Independent ticket
52 years old
Married with children
Catholic
A former addictions counselor, which should come in handy when dealing with our addiction to foreign oil.
Want more? Keep reading for his independent position on top political talking points.
On Iraq
"I wouldn't have gone to war in Iraq."
As president, Joe says he would issue a hearty "I'm sorry" to Iraqi citizens for starting the war and "destabilizing their country."
He wants to establish an "Iraq War Victim's Fund" for families of war victims, but he doesn't indicate where the money to fund it would come from.
He promises to move some troops out of Iraq by the 1st Qtr of '08 and move the rest form combat duty to training and [Iraqi] military support.
Joe really seems to believe in giving peace a chance and wants to add more UN Peacekeeping forces in Iraq as well as establishing talks between Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon. Yeah, good luck with that. Hamas is running things in Palestine now and the only thing they want to talk about with Israel is how to kill them all off and remove them from the world map. But I digress.
On Immigration
Amnesty, amnesty, amnesty!
"I said my administration would push for amnesty for illegal immigrants and family reunification."
"We shouldn't look at new arrivals to this country as a burden, but rather as a tremendous opportunity to help." Yeah, sure. I'll buy that.
Joe supports a "temporary worker program for those who want to work here and keep their [national] citizenship." He even wants to abandon the idea of a national ID card.
Get this, Joe also wants a European Union-esque committee with Canada, the US, Mexico and Central America in order to, among other things, boost economy and "promote general camaraderie between nations." Can't you just feel the love?
Is he serious? Yes, I think he is.
On Healthcare
"We believe if you heal the family, you'd heal the country."
Schriner, surprisingly, supports preventative healthcare, such as better nutrition, physical activity, stress management and organic foods. I haven't heard that from Edwards, Clinton or Obama.
He defends "community pharmacy" and a network of healthcare providers "doing more volunteer work."
On Terrorism
Schriner distinguishes between what he calls different types of terror, including nuclear terrorism, food terrorism and eugenics terrorism.
Joe wants to do away with the nuclear missiles that we have "aimed all over the world".
(Nuclear terrorism)
He seeks to modify our over consumption and wasteful behavior concerning food while countless numbers of people worldwide either starve to death or are malnourished.
(Food terrorism)
Joe intends to outlaw abortion, of which he says, "We have become our own worst terrorists."
(Eugenics terrorism)
All in all, Joe Schriner seems like an even-tempered, idealistic kinda guy, but due to his question posed at a talk in Ohio, "What if we started to fight terrorism with forgiveness", I am forced to continue shopping for a viable independent presidential candidate. Average Joe Schriner is just too average for my vote.

I'm all for happy, shiny people everywhere, but this guy is a bit much, even for me. Thanks for letting us know about the independents, even if i won't vote for this one, I like to know who is out there and you're doing a great job with that.
