A modern couple by all means for this time, they decide to divorce. It is amicable and they stay friends on the surface. It is underneath this surface that the boiling point is almost reached.
They are both back on the market and dating. They are experts in sabotaging each other's dates. This continues on through the movie.
Irene Dunne's clothes in this film are exquisite. Just to see the different outfits that she is wearing makes this film a fashion viewing extravaganza. The feminine clothes with every attention paid to detail is not at all like what women of today are wearing. Just what she wears to go to bed is like something commissioned for royalty.
They are very modern couple for a 70 year old film. The way they discuss their divorce and the innuendos about over night guests are the same things you hear in movies today. The home they once shared together has silk covered accessories that you could not find today even in the best of shops. They really knew how to primp and primp and primp some more in those days. You could never find the time to do all this primping with today's hectic schedules.
The hair styles alone had to take hours to do. It is amazing how people lived back then. Settle in and watch Irene Dunne and Cary Grant rip each others dates apart, limb by limb. They do a great job at ripping each other apart too. They don't make films like this anymore, this is truly a classic. I
Irene Dunne and Cary Grant made a magnetizing couple in the 1930's on the screen. They were good opposites when playing a couple. Their jokes would bounce off one another with ease. As a comedy duo., they did well.
