The Baby's Gender is Revealed on Ghost Whisperer's Season Finale
Few Would've Raked in on a Baby Pool
But last night, Gordon discovers she is having a boy in which Gordon asks one of her ghost friends if the child will be able to do what she does. The ghost responded that no, he wouldn't be able to. Melinda looked relieved. I mean, who really wants their child to be able to talk to ghosts? Not I. But before the ghost leaves, he informs Melinda that her son will be able to do much more. Immediately, Heroes episodes flash across my mind.
This episode, however, doesn't get the resounding review that I normally give to the shows I love. As I have mentioned on my blog at Television Hot Spot, I have been less then impressed at the show's changes since it's beginning. Too many characters have died off or left, there's too many episodes that make no sense to me, and the cryptic air of supposed mystery leaves me feeling dissatisfied with particular storylines.
Take the season finale for instance. This was one of those episodes that I just couldn't get interested in. We see lots of different visions where one ghost says to Melinda Gordon, "They are just trying to scare you," with no other explanation. We see names in "The Book of Changes" that are the names of those that have died on the show and then Melinda's name in the book next to her due date... the whole episode was full of innuendos and suspicion but no actual story. It was hard for me to follow and even more hard for me to act interested. This didn't speak much for the show, especially after this season's strange story of Melinda's husband dying and coming back in someone else's body (even though it is someone else's body, the character is still played by the same man).
One thing is for sure. There's already been a sneak peak of things to come. In "The Book of Changes", as previously mentioned, Melinda's name is next to her due date, 9/25/09. Sometime in the first few episodes of next season, Melinda will have her son, making this the fastest television pregnancy I've ever seen. Usually, there is merit in a show that prolongs a pregnancy, adding suspense and anticipation. This show, however, has sped up the process. We have just found out about the pregnancy and already the baby bump is at a five to sixth month stage. If she has the baby as predicted at the beginning of next season, it will rip a large part of normalcy out of the show.
I love the cast and characters of Ghost Whisperer. The problem is with the writing. The stories have become jagged. Despite loving the premise of the show, I will more than likely stop watching the show next season if the story writing does not improve.

I'm not much for these types of shows but I enjoyed your review of Ghost Whisperer. It's kind of like a recap of the season.
I used to like this show. When Jim died I started to think it was silly. Why kill off her husband only to have him change bodies. I don't think I'll watch it next season.
Oooooo, I missed that one. Nice catch.
Isn't it odd that Melinda's due date is 9/25 yet Jim died on 11/7. It doesn't add up...
